Cottonwood AZ (May 24, 2016) – On May 21, 2016, just after 5 PM, YCSO deputies were dispatched to an injury collision about 1.5 miles north along Forest Road 761 from Bill Grey Road, Cottonwood. Upon arrival, deputies found an ATV with heavy damage apparently from a rollover. The driver of the vehicle, a 40-year-old man from Marana, Arizona, had been ejected and was lying on the roadway with significant head and upper body injuries.
Sedona AZ (May 24, 2016) – This summer, the city of Sedona Parks and Recreation Department will once again host the popular soccer camp, Challenger Sports’ British Soccer Camp at Posse Grounds Park. Two sessions will be available, which are June 13, 2016 – June 17, 2016 and July 11, 2016 – July 15, 2016.
Cottonwood AZ (May 23, 2016) – On May 21, 2016, at around 12:45 AM, a YCSO deputy attempted a traffic stop on a motorcyclist riding on the sidewalk adjacent to Highway 260 near Del Rio Drive, Cottonwood. The rider fled and following a brief pursuit, was arrested after crashing the motorcycle in the 2300 block of Cedar Trail, Cottonwood. He was identified at 43-year-old Vince Saverino from Cottonwood. Saverino was booked at the Camp Verde Detention Center on charges including Unlawful Flight from pursing Law Enforcement Officer, Weapons Misconduct, and Vehicle Theft. He remains in-custody on a $10,000 bond.
By Ted GrussingSunday afternoon I walked up to Eric & Jo’s for a visit and to sit in their wonderful backyard shooting birds … beautiful ones and dozens of species … got some really nice ones, but the leaves on a few plants caught my eye as they were being backlit by the setting sun. Looks like they have lived a good life, perhaps a few tough times and a little ragged around the edges … think we all feel that way sometimes and yet the beauty is what we focus on … mostly.

Sedona AZ (May 23, 2016) – The city of Sedona announced today that Ron Wheeler has been hired as Interim Police Chief while the city conducts a search to replace Ray Cota, who resigned as Police Chief on May 20, 2016. Wheeler was originally hired by the Sedona Police Department in 2002 as a Patrol Officer, and then was promoted to a Commander from 2006 to 2013. Recently, Wheeler retired as Police Chief of the town of Pinetop-Lakeside, Ariz. where he worked for three years.
Sedona AZ (May 25, 2016) – The Mental Health Coalition Verde Valley is beginning a Survivors of Suicide support group for anyone who has lost a loved one to suicide. The group will hold its first Verde Valley meeting on Tuesday, May 31, 6:30-8:30pm at Christ Lutheran Church, 25 Chapel Road, Sedona. Going forward, the group will meet the last Tuesday of each month.
