AZDPS did not investigate any fatal collisions during the five-day holiday travel periodPhoenix AZ (November 29, 2018) – The Arizona Department of Public Safety (AZDPS) is reporting no collision fatalities on state highways patrolled by AZDPS during the 2018 Thanksgiving holiday, from Wednesday evening November 21, through Sunday evening November 25. Cottonwood AZ (November 28, 2018) – Attorney General Mark Brnovich announced former City of Cottonwood employee Hans Burnett was sentenced to three years probation, 120 hours of community service, and 60 days of deferred jail time after he pleaded guilty to one count of Criminal Damage in connection with his previous work as a foreman at the City of Cottonwood Water Testing Laboratory in 2016.Burnett instructed his subordinate employees to modify test results and rewrite the paperwork associated with Cottonwood drinking water compliance samples. Cottonwood AZ (November 27, 2018) – On November 24, 2018, around 12:45 PM, YCSO deputies were dispatched to a call regarding a kayaker trapped in the Verde River near Thousand Trails Park just outside Cottonwood, Arizona. The 57-year-old woman, from out of state, had been knocked off her kayak and managed to get her leg stuck under a rock in a rough patch of moving water. Another kayaker was able to float down to the stranded woman, call 911 which provided GPS coordinates to arriving emergency personnel. Highway reopens in the spring, usually around mid-MayPhoenix AZ (November 27, 2018) – State Route 67 between Jacob Lake (US 89A) and the North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park is scheduled to close for the winter season on Monday, Dec. 3. ADOT doesn’t clear snow from SR 67 during the winter since North Rim visitor accommodations are closed. The highway reopens each spring, usually around mid-May. US 89A remains open during the winter.
