Sedona Lit is a series by Dr. Elizabeth Oakes, an award winning poet and former Shakespeare professor. A Sedonian of three years, she will highlight the literature, written or performed, of Sedona, past and present.By Elizabeth Oakes(February 22, 2016)How many paintings and photographs do you think there are of Sedona’s red rocks? I’d say thousands, just of, say, Cathedral Rock, and no two alike! The visual artists portray Sedona in its changes much as Monet painted haystacks in different lights. Likewise, although less visible and with fewer venues, Sedona’s writers, among them these three – Christine Marie Cole, Janice Carter,…

Information & Perspective by Warren Woodward(February 20, 2016)I made a Public Records Request of the Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC) back in December of 2014. The following January, when the ACC sent me the documents I asked for, I caught them making all kinds of bogus redactions to the documents, including even inventing a new redaction classification called “state of mind” whereby entire pages were blacked out.I also caught the ACC not giving me all the documents they should have by law. They actually hid documents from me. I found this out because at the same time I made a Public…

By Steve Segner(February 19, 2016)After talking to several city councilors I have decided to withdraw my application for appointment to the city council at this time. I most likely will run for a full term in the next election if I do not feel there are enough qualified candidates running for the open terms. I do hope that many of the current councilors whose terms are expiring consider re-election.For what it is worth, I think Mike Ward will be the logical choice to fill the council seat till next election and appreciate his willingness to serve the community again.

By Ted Grussing… and the human eye cannot catch all the subtle action that is unfolding before it … actually not so subtle in this case. I had more than fifty emails from pilot friends today about the shot of the mallard holding off before touch/splash down. There is something magical about those milliseconds where you have set up your landing and as your flying speed is slowed and the wings life is drained from the wings you keep holding it off the runway until you settle onto the ground and rejoin life as a ground based creature.  If you…
