By Ted Grussing… large swells coming across the ocean reach shallow water and that forces the water upwards creating huge waves that come rolling in. On Saturday the waves were supposed to be in the forty-foot range at Mavericks and surf warnings were issued for numerous parts of the northern California coast including where I took this shot. The wave was not super big, but probably around twelve feet … it was beautiful spending time just looking at these massive waves rise up, curl over and come crashing down.

By Ted Grussing… there is more than one way to surf and the Pelicans are among the best when it comes to running ridge lift on the face of waves as the air is pushed forward and up, they park themselves in the beautiful band of lift and cruise making gentle control movements with their wings and primary feathers to maintain lift and control. Camp Verde AZ (February 29, 2016) – Ever since the fatal collision in February of 2014, William Jordan who was 36-years-old at the time, insisted that his wife, 30-year-old Stephanie Steel, was driving the SUV involved in the collision off Fossil Creek Road outside of Camp Verde. Steel was pronounced dead at the scene. When deputies spoke with Jordan just before his airlift to a Phoenix hospital, they could detect the odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath. By Ted GrussingI think I’ll devote this week to shots I took over the weekend whilst visiting Ted, Sus and Annika (nearly 2,000 of them). Derek gave me a number of hints on shooting the waves which helped enormously, but we’ll start with a land/seascape shot of Pigeon Point Lighthouse that I took as we headed down the coast to Carmel, Sunday morning. I’ll finish the week with the same view, but taken at sunset Sunday afternoon with the setting sun behind the lighthouse. Then there will be three shots of water in between these two shots.
