Sedona AZ (April 28, 2016) – I receive a lot of emails from Sedona residents. Most of the emails comment about community issues or offer suggestions for improving our town, and many of them oppose decisions the council has made or is considering. Most of the emails are civil and thoughtful. I like hearing from residents and am often intrigued by peoples’ unique perspectives on issues or by the skill with which they make their arguments.Seems like we live in a very angry time, however, and a number of emails I receive are not nice. By Ted Grussing… with an incredible bright flash at the very moment that the sperm enters an egg and a human life has begun. We frequently hear how those with near death or actual death experiences witness a bright white light into which they can journey, but obviously for us to know of that experience they have to return to their bodies and life, but now we know with certainty that there is a bright white flash that occurs the moment that human (and other) life begins.

I took this shot almost eight years ago and It still brings the same sense of calm and all is right with the world feeling as it did then. Nice to look at when the weather is blustery and cool.

By Ted Grussing… a sunny day along the Northern California coast in February and the wind was blowing and the surf was very high … it was a sunny day in Sedona today and the wind was blowing as this raven lifted off from the grass. I viewed the scene through the viewfinder as I walked towards him … somehow recollections of past places seemed a more appealing setting for this beautiful creature than against some trees between our home and the tenth green. So two similar days in faraway places found themselves together tonight. Today the raven was rising…
By [Concerned Sedona Resident](April 25, 2016)Last week we examined the day-tripper tourist flood that is diminishing the quality of life and experience for both residents and tourists alike. This third part looks ahead to explore consequences of having more tourists than city infrastructure and the local environment can sustain, more than Sedona residents will tolerate and examines the question of whether Sedona’s tourism economy has become an unsustainable bubble.Part 3We begin with one of the questions we left you with last week: What return are we actually getting for our tax-funded advertising and how many tourists really needed to subsidize…
Sedona Lit is a series by Dr. Elizabeth Oakes, an award winning poet and former Shakespeare professor. A Sedonian of three years, she will highlight the literature, written or performed, of Sedona, past and present.By Elizabeth Oakes(April 25, 2016)It was one of those Sedona moments: I was thinking of who we at the Pumphouse Poetry and Prose Project might invite to Sedona, and Molly McCaffrey and David Bell popped into my mind first, immediately, and out of the blue (Sedona sky). By Ted Grussing… for the last one of the week, for the one that did not go out Wednesday night … this Great Blue Heron is in full brake mode and stalling in, his body is arched, wings almost perpendicular to the line of flight and legs poised for the drop into the water next to the shore. While we spend the next couple of days relaxing, the heron like all creatures will be busy working to get their daily meals … some will live and some will not … such is the nature of life on this planet.
