Sedona AZ (May 4, 2016) – For a second consecutive year, partners of the Northern Arizona Forest Fund volunteered to help improve Arizona’s Oak Creek watershed on the Coconino National Forest as part of a Friends of the Forest® Volunteer Day. SanTan Brewing Company, Pink Jeep Tours, Nackard Beverages and Salt River Project all came together for the volunteer day, turning out 27 volunteers. The National Forest Foundation (NFF) and Coconino National Forest Red Rock Ranger District hosted the volunteer event with organizational and on-the-ground leadership from the Oak Creek Watershed Council.
Cottonwood AZ (May 4, 2016) – On May 2, 2016, Sheriff Mascher was notified by the Yavapai County Attorney’s Office that Deputy Steven Gorman has been cleared of any wrongdoing in the shooting death of suspect Ebin Proctor. The County Attorney’s conclusion was based on a review of the Arizona Department of Public Safety shooting investigation report and extensive supplemental documentation submitted. The findings from the County Attorney’s Office state that no evidence exists to indicate any wrongdoing on the part of Deputy Gorman.

Cottonwood AZ (May 3, 2016) – At about 2:15 PM, on April 28, 2016, YCSO deputies were dispatched to the area of Pipe Creek Drive in Cottonwood-Verde Village regarding suspects in a white Ford Mustang who shot at an occupied van, smashing the windshield. The driver of the van followed the Mustang to a cul-de-sac and tried to block the vehicle, but the Mustang’s driver was able to get by and flee. Further information indicated a passenger in the Mustang had fled into the neighborhood carrying ‘guns.’

On days when the National Weather Service issues a Red Flag Warning for Sedona and the surrounding forest, the Volunteer Park Rangers will wear “Red Flag Warning Today” buttons to educate the public of the potential for a fire and the steps needed to prevent one.

Sedona AZ (May 2, 2016) – Brittany Maynard’s video went viral in October 2014. It was viewed three million times in its first three days. Recently married and living in California, Brittany had hopes of starting a family with her husband when she was diagnosed with an aggressive form of brain cancer and told she had six months to live. She and her family moved to Oregon and began planning her death, choosing to end her life before the pain and suffering would destroy her. Oregon had approved the Death With Dignity Act in 1994.
