Flagstaff AZ (June 14, 2016) – Campfire and smoking restrictions will begin 8 a.m. Wednesday (June 15) on the Coconino, Kaibab, Prescott and Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests in order to protect public health and reduce preventable human-caused fires.Under the restrictions, fires, campfires, charcoal, coal and wood stoves are allowed in developed campgrounds only, which are managed by concessionaires or have campground hosts. The restrictions also limit smoking to within enclosed vehicles or buildings or in developed campgrounds.

By Ted Grussing… remember those days when after church on Sunday there would be the pot roasts, mashed potatoes (real ones), gravy, vegetables and a nice pie (alamode) for desert and then after sleeping off the overly full belly (the men … women had to clean up the mess) everyone would pile in the car and go for a Sunday afternoon drive. Frequently we would go out to the Narrows at Lake Minnetonka and do some fishing and hope the fish didn’t bite (gotta clean them and eat them).

Cottonwood AZ (June 13, 2016) – On June 9, 2016, at approximately 6PM, a YCSO deputy attempted a traffic stop for an equipment violation involving a silver 2003 Jaguar sedan. The deputy initially spotted the vehicle on Western Drive in Cottonwood. Instead of stopping, the vehicle accelerated and fled. The deputy initiated a pursuit and the suspect driver, later identified as 48-year-old Robert Warix from Glendale, Arizona, recklessly drove through several neighborhood streets to avoid the deputy.

By Ted GrussingI like this shot that a friend took of me in AZ2 as we were cruising down a valley … AZ2 is an HPH 304CA 17.43m (57.2 ft wingspan) ship with a 48 to 1 glide ratio. Looks like I am running with negative flaps too … better performance. I miss having that glide ratio, but having an engine when I need it saves those long retrieves from small desert strips, alfalfa fields and what not.  Still, I spent about 1400 hours flying her on long and not so long cross country flights.
