… remember those days when after church on Sunday there would be the pot roasts, mashed potatoes (real ones), gravy, vegetables and a nice pie (alamode) for desert and then after sleeping off the overly full belly (the men … women had to clean up the mess) everyone would pile in the car and go for a Sunday afternoon drive. Frequently we would go out to the Narrows at Lake Minnetonka and do some fishing and hope the fish didn’t bite (gotta clean them and eat them).

Here is another Sunday dinner I witnessed today, with a Zone Tail Hawk that had just plucked a songbird out of a tree and you can see a green leaf (main course and a salad) that he got when he dove into the tree and nailed his Sunday dinner (literally … talons about an inch and a half long). It was an amazing day and I got some of the best shots ever of the Zone Tail and Red Tail Hawks and also best ever of a Red Wing Blackbird … and a string of shots of One charging at me at ground level. We had some nice time on the grass in the shade today and she did several attacks which I captured too. Fun to have those days that are just neat … just like listening to Sinatra singing …

Starting to get the hang of Adobe Premier Pro and looking forward to getting my first simple efforts completed. Lots of time on tutorials and mostly it is getting used to a new interface and tools … four primary panes, but the shortcuts for toggling full screen and back and the editing tools are very cool and has a certain “Adobe” feel to it although this is for video production. In addition to the GoPro camera I am going to start carrying the 6D with the nifty fifty lens and shoot video clips with it when I’m flying … along with the 5DsR and a 1DX – not bad, carrying four cameras on my flights now, up from two or three.

Still more than 250 emails to reply too … your patience is appreciated … making progress!

Into the new week and hope it proves to be a joyful one for you … and those you know. Smile and share your joy.

    Cheers

    The Symbolism of Jan. 6

    By Tommy Acosta
Don’t mess with symbols. Just ask author Dan Brown’s character Robert Landon. The worth of symbols cannot be measured. Symbols make the world-go-round. Symbols carry the weight of a thousand words and meanings. Symbols represent reality boiled down to the bone. Symbols evoke profound emotions and memories—at a very primal level of our being—often without our making rational or conscious connections. They fuel our imagination. Symbols enable us to access aspects of our existence that cannot be accessed in any other way. Symbols are used in all facets of human endeavor. One can only feel sorry for those who cannot comprehend the government’s response to the breech of the capital on January 6, with many, even pundits, claiming it was only a peaceful occupation. Regardless if one sees January 6 as a full-scale riot/insurrection or simply patriotic Americans demonstrating as is their right, the fact is the individuals involved went against a symbol, and this could not be allowed or go unpunished.
