Justice Department Has 60 Days to Accept, Reject or Request More Information Phoenix AZ (February 29, 2012)  – The Arizona Independent Redistricting Commission has sent its legislative-district map for Justice Department review. Because Arizona is subject to Section 5 of the federal Voting Rights Act, the commission is seeking “preclearance” from Washington for the map to be used in this fall’s elections. The Justice Department has 60 calendar days to respond, starting the first full day after it receives a submission. The response could be approval, rejection or a request for additional information.

Sedona AZ (February 29, 2012) – The Rotary Club of Sedona is launching a program to send free books to preschool children who live in Sedona and the Village of Oak Creek. Children registered in the program will receive a book every month in the mail from the Imagination Library collection. The only requirements are that the child reside in Sedona or the Village of Oak Creek and be between birth and age five.

Flagstaff AZ (February 28, 2012) – All snowplows in the Flagstaff area are fully deployed and all state roadways remain open, at this time. Sedona AZ (February 27, 2012) – On February 22, 2012, Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office detectives arrested 51-year-old Kirk Harris for 4 counts of Child Molestation. Harris was booked at the Camp Verde Detention Center and is being held without bond. Earlier this month, a victim contacted YCSO to report incidents of child molestation by Harris which occurred several years earlier. The molestations had taken place in the Phoenix and Camp Verde areas.
