By Ted Grussing … finished numerous projects that have been trying to get my attention for months, and late afternoon headed down to Phoenix for dinner with friends I have not seen for a few years. I guess traffic was heavy going to the original destination in Scottsdale so Melissa, did a search on her iPhone for restaurants in an area close to where we all might be, called me and we ended up with a pretty funky choice, to wit Chino Bandido on N 19th Av in Phoenix which is a restaurant serving combination Chinese/Mexican dishes and the food…

By Ted Grussing … a cheery start to the day Saturday morning as I walked down the cart path on the fifth hole and this little creature was making himself known … no idea what it is, but I like it. I’m sure he doesn’t know what name we have given him either, so for now the two of us are in syncronisity … we both are clueless, but we both know we exist and for a few moments we shared the morning and other than his songs, the quiet. I got some really neat shots over the weekend; hawks,…

By Steve HammonsJoint Recon Study Group Phoenix AZ (February 20, 2014) – It’s not just about unidentified flying objects (UFOs) and the beings reportedly aboard some of them. It’s bigger, wider, deeper. That is one of the insights gained by many of the people who attended the five-day 23rd annual International UFO Congress conference near Scottsdale and Fountain Hills, Arizona, Feb. 12-16. From national security considerations to spiritual perspectives, from the far reaches of the Universe to our struggling planet Earth here and now, speakers and attendees explored dozens of key aspects of, and possible connections to the UFO phenomena.
By Ted Grussing … and with “gear” down and locked this pair of mallards landed in close formation traveling more than thirty feet per second. They were in as tight a formation on landing as I have ever seen, but were beautifully synchronized and kept a distance of less than a foot separation from each other. I’ve seen a lot of planes take off and land in close formation, but this is in a class all by itself.
By Ted Grussing It appears that Gordon was about 200 miles short of his intended destination and I think landed at Casper Wyoming which is still a flight of about 750 miles. He was very high at times (27,000’) and as my friend Paul says they must have had a heck of an oxygen system and heating system to be that high this time of year (no engine to get heat from). Thank you to my Canadian friend Tom for sending me the information and link to the flight, it was fun tracking the flight and visualizing what he was…
By Ted Grussing … found me climbing through 15,000’ to be above the floor of airspace in the Desert View area of the Grand Canyon I was preparing to overfly. Desert View is on the far left side of the photograph about where the far left canyon comes back out and joins the main canyon. Red Mountain is near horizon left of center and far left you can see the San Francisco Peaks some seventy or so miles south. I like this place and the forces of nature over the millions of years are there for all to see and…
By Ted Grussing … this hen Canvasback made tracks when I came up the slight hill at the end of the ponds and she saw me. This was the next to the last step before she went airborne and headed for parts unknown, but anywhere except where I was. Most of the ducks wintering down here are very used to humans and know that in this place and this time they will not be shot at and thus slowly swim away instead of fly.
By Ted Grussing …each bloom there is an amazing structure…beautiful and pure function. I spent a few hours writing this morning and the balance of the day doing a refined sort of slides, negatives, print photos and documents. I found myself tossing nearly all of the photos that did not contain family or friends. I tossed some of my best film shots of flowers, landscape and aerials. A lot of the family and people photos also hit the bucket; more than a thousand photos will be on the way to the landfill. A couple of walks, telephone calls with friends…
By Warren Woodward, Sedona Resident Massachusetts’ largest electric utility company has recently declared that: There are no cost savings to be had from “smart” meters. “Smart” meters do not reduce outages. “Smart” meters are not “grid modernization”. “Smart” meters are a cyber-security risk. and Contrary to the bogus claims of “smart” meter boosters, given the choice, few ratepayers will “opt in” and ask for a “smart” meter. They have no use for one.
By Cheryl Yeatts, Manager of Sedona Public Library in the Village Sedona AZ (February 14, 2014) – When I reflect on Valentine’s Day, I think of these symbols: hearts, chocolate, flowers, and Cupid, the Roman god of love. While Valentine’s Day may be about romance, it seems like the perfect time to express appreciation for generous acts of kindness that I have witnessed while working at Sedona Public Library in the Village.
By Ted Grussing … or so it seemed that this playful creature was saying as I disturbed his food gathering and he scurried up a tree and gave me a look that said “keep moving dude”. So a few more shots and I moved on down the cart path to home and another steak and broccoli dinner. Tough to choose anything else when you get 12 oz. USDA Choice NY Strip steaks, bone out for $4.00 on sale. Wendy’s is expensive by comparison and not nearly as good. I’m finding that cooking for one can be a pretty simple thing…
By Henry Twombly, Sedona Resident(February 12, 2014) By now you have received the publicity pamphlet for the New Community Plan. I urge you not to rely on this pamphlet for your sole source of information in helping you decide your vote. I recommend you take the time to read through the Plan and come to your own conclusions. (You probably read about mine in the pamphlet.) You’ll have to read in between the lines to fathom the true effects of the Plan, because it is written to appeal to universal themes, upon which we can agree, but which would actually be…
Sedona AZ (February 11, 2014) – As the City’s new Arts & Culture Coordinator, I am pleased to report the current progress within the City’s various arts and culture programs. The program has grown to over 30 artists, with 21 new to the program this year and all with impressive backgrounds. There has been wonderful exposure through the Red Rock News featuring artists that have helped create and develop curriculum with teachers in our local schools. This…
