… this hen Canvasback made tracks when I came up the slight hill at the end of the ponds and she saw me. This was the next to the last step before she went airborne and headed for parts unknown, but anywhere except where I was. Most of the ducks wintering down here are very used to humans and know that in this place and this time they will not be shot at and thus slowly swim away instead of fly.

Against my rules to try and scare them into flight so I can get a shot; every creature needs to know that there is a time and a place where they are safe and have sanctuary. This is their place and their time and I will take what they give me … today, this is the only one I got out of ten shots as I did not track her very well.

photo_tedgrussingHad a fun visit with a friend I have not seen for a while and conversation ranged from Limbo to Purgatory and other real estate in cemeteries … actually a light conversation about human nature and the attempt to control the ultimate outcomes for some who we do not know and some we do … the Blues and Mariah the name for my copilot seems better than TBA. One of the funnest days in a long time. Following this nice interlude I picked the Van up from the Anderson family (Anderson Automotive) and headed down to the ponds for a walk and this shot; thence home and got the computer pretty well finished now with all four monitors setup and doing what I want. This really a kick and have two monitors dedicated only for photo editing and the program. Way cool!!!

Friends over tomorrow and hopefully a resumption of writing and photo sorting.  Sticking with Max’s quote again tonight that I shall not reform myself today … it can wait for a rainy day and that is not a foreseeable event in our area anytime soon … so I shall continue to enjoy the day as I see fit. Enjoy your day too and enjoy your life each day because the moment is all you have and no promise or guarantee for another. Smile and as Michael Franti and Spearhead are currently singing, “Say Hey”

    Cheers

I’ll not bother to reform myself today.
Perhaps tomorrow — if it is raining,
and I must stay indoors, and meditate
    on the shortcomings of life.

    The Symbolism of Jan. 6

    By Tommy Acosta
Don’t mess with symbols. Just ask author Dan Brown’s character Robert Landon. The worth of symbols cannot be measured. Symbols make the world-go-round. Symbols carry the weight of a thousand words and meanings. Symbols represent reality boiled down to the bone. Symbols evoke profound emotions and memories—at a very primal level of our being—often without our making rational or conscious connections. They fuel our imagination. Symbols enable us to access aspects of our existence that cannot be accessed in any other way. Symbols are used in all facets of human endeavor. One can only feel sorry for those who cannot comprehend the government’s response to the breech of the capital on January 6, with many, even pundits, claiming it was only a peaceful occupation. Regardless if one sees January 6 as a full-scale riot/insurrection or simply patriotic Americans demonstrating as is their right, the fact is the individuals involved went against a symbol, and this could not be allowed or go unpunished.
