By Ted Grussing… into the abyss … or so it seems, as this grackle leaves his perch on a concrete abutment and dives for some food on the now exposed bottom of one of the ponds at Bubbling Ponds Hatchery in Page Springs. They are remarkable flyers and with those huge tail feathers have rudder authority such as few birds have. The mud clumps and little ponds of water rather detracted from the photo so I took a few artistic liberties with it. The shadow of the bird on the concrete is amazing.

Camp Verde AZ (January 1, 2020) – The next Music in the Stacks, a free monthly concert series, will take place on Thursday, January 9th at 5:30 pm in Camp Verde Community Library’s Terracotta Room. Music in the Stacks is a showcase of local and national musicians who entertain regularly in Northern Arizona. City of Cottonwood is now a Certified Sustainable Business at the Conservationist/Bronze level.Sedona AZ (January 1, 2020) – The City of Cottonwood has worked diligently on behalf of its citizens and the Verde Valley to reduce water consumption. In 2005, they became the largest water provider in the Verde Valley after purchasing the six private water companies that previously had served the Cottonwood area. The city immediately began making repairs and upgrades to the water production and distribution system to improve its reliability and reduce the lost and unaccounted for water that was previously occurring.

Ash Fork AZ (December 31, 2019) – On December 27, 2019, around 9:15 AM, deputies were dispatched to the Juniper Woods community south of Ash Fork regarding a missing 57-year-old man. The caller indicated his roommate had been missing since the previous afternoon, but had failed to call until now. The missing man walked away from a trailer on their property and could not be found. A YCSO Forest Patrol deputy called out members of the Yavapai County Search and Rescue Team’s (YCSRT) 4×4 and Back Country units.
