Flagstaff AZ (June 15, 2013) – UPDATE – Firefighters responded aggressively to yesterday’s Wild Bill Fire. It has been confined – meaning there is line around the fire and further growth has been stopped – and 50% contained at 26 acres. Crews will continue mopping up and ensure lines hold through the remainder of the day. Fire managers are anticipating full containment by tomorrow afternoon. The fire generally burned across the forest floor on level terrain in ponderosa pine forest, with some individual torching. Smoke can be expected for the next couple days.

Microsoft will NEVER initiate UNSOLICITED phone calls or emails regarding computer repair! Verde Valley AZ (June 14, 2013) – Last year, the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office received several complaints regarding an ongoing scam involving fraud suspects representing themselves as “Microsoft” technical support employees. These scammers convince their “customers” to spend several hundred dollars as part of the fraud. In recent weeks, YCSO has taken new complaints regarding this scam and would again like to warn computer users of the ploy.
Flagstaff AZ (June 14, 2013) – Due to increasing fire danger, the Coconino, Kaibab, Prescott and Tonto National Forests in Arizona will implement Stage II fire restrictions effective Wednesday, June 19, at 8 a.m. These additional fire restrictions will remain in effect until forest officials determine that conditions have changed sufficiently to reduce the risk of human-caused wildfire.
Sedona AZ (June 14, 2013) – This year, the City of Sedona continues to pursue an accelerated street maintenance program for its approximately 106 miles of streets. This program involves overlaying of roads and streets, along with performing maintenance activities to extend pavement life. Although the City has been overlaying and maintaining streets for many years, the program was accelerated, beginning in 2012, with a doubling of the budget dollars allocated for road work. Sedona AZ (June 13, 2013) – The Sedona Heritage Museum is hosting a selection of quilts from the Arizona Centennial Quilt Project, now through early September 2013. Three of the quilts are by Yavapai County quilters, including a quilt designed like a ‘balloon’ lettered vintage postcard. Other quilts feature a crossword puzzle of Arizona terms, a quilt begun in the 1930s but not completed until this project, a quilt by a Hopi quilter from First Mesa, a quilt by a Brownie girls scout troop, and several ‘art’ quilts that celebrate different themes of our state.

Intermittent one-hour closures expected on I-17 in both directions between midnight and 3 a.m. Verde Valley AZ (June 13, 2013) – Motorists traveling on Interstate 17 south of Camp Verde between midnight and 3 a.m. during the next three weeks need to plan ahead and allow extra travel time due to overnight construction on a climbing lane project, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation. Overnight work will require a pair of one-hour closures in both directions on I-17 as crews continue blasting rock cuts along the highway.
