Sedona AZ (April 30, 2016) – In an effort to maintain safe, public sidewalks that are ADA compliant, Precision Concrete Cutting (PCC) will repair uneven or raised sidewalk panels in Sedona. The work began last week and will continue into May 2016.
By Ted Grussing… that is what this male redwing blackbird seems to be saying as he competes with two other males also singing their hearts out this afternoon, joyfully informing the world (and the female redwing blackbirds in the area) that he is available and probably the best choice they can make. Their songs were beautiful and given the large flocks of redwing blackbirds you see in the fall, they are probably pretty successful … and they are very handsome creatures.
Cottonwood AZ (April 29, 2016) – On April 26 at 10:50 a.m. the Verde Valley Fire District Board of Directors unanimously adopted a resolution consolidating Clarkdale Fire District and Verde Valley Fire District effective July 1, 2016.The two districts have been discussing sharing services, in some form, since May 2015. Board discussions and staff research led the boards to the conclusion that a consolidation would be beneficial to the citizens they serve by enhancing efficiency and service while eliminating duplicated costs.

Information and Perspective by Warren Woodward(April 29, 2016)Some time ago CenturyLink asked the Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC) to add more money to customers’ bills for “facility relocation.” Facility relocation was not explained. At an 800# provided by CenturyLink for an explanation, no one there had any idea what the issue even was. In typical CenturyLink fashion, customers were abused. I was laughed at and hung up on. But as usual, the ACC is poised to give another corporation it supposedly regulates whatever that corporation wants. And, as usual, the slack ACC staff has not done their homework. Read More→
Sedona AZ (April 29, 2016) – Mike Yarbrough, Executive Vice President of Keep Sedona Beautiful, was presented with The Initiative Award by the City of Sedona at their Volunteer Appreciation Lunch on April 21. This award recognizes “the volunteer who takes initiative and runs with it.” Mike proactively requested that the city form a Citizen’s Engagement Group to analyze airport noise, and propose recommendations. Mike was recognized for working diligently and respectfully to make progress on noise and airport issues.
Sedona AZ (April 29, 2016) – The city of Sedona’s Community Development Department building welcomes spring inside with Therese Black’s photography exhibit, “Spring Blossoms,” currently on display.The exhibit features bold flowers that catch the eye and were captured in many locations in the Verde Valley, from parks to private gardens. Something that is very important to Black is world peace, which she uses her photos to promote. “My art is a meditation and a path to a state of peace,” said Black.

Verde Valley AZ (April 28, 2016) – On April 19, 2016, Sheriff Mascher was honored to receive a $6800 check from the State Farm Insurance Company to aid YCSO’s driver’s safety education programs. The check was presented by State Farm Agent Penny Hubble from the Chino Valley Office.The monies received will be used in the purchase of equipment and software necessary to produce educational video segments on topics of driver safety with a focus on teenaged drivers. This basic curriculum is already in place as part of YCSO’s Right-by-Kids program featuring its mascot, Deputy Do-Right.
