Clarkdale AZ (April 22, 2014) – The Town of Clarkdale is hosting a workshop on May 9 to help identify potential recreational uses and possible improvements at two River Access Points along the Verde River- Tuzigoot and Lower TAPCO – to assist in developing a master plan for the two sites. Sedona AZ (April 22, 2014) – The Humane Society of Sedona will host its Third Annual Help the Animals Auction on May 10th at the Elks Lodge located at 110 Airport Road in Sedona. The auction has doubled in size in terms of donations received for the auction and funds raised via auction sales. The Humane Society attributes the success of this event to the quality auction items donated by their community partners, businesses and individual supporters. The items are wide in variety and price and therefore, HSS believes, there is something that will appeal to everyone who attends.

Sedona AZ (April 22, 2014) – The Sedona Heritage Museum will hold a Rummage & Treasures Sale on Saturday, April 26 from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. at the Museum. Proceeds will benefit the Museum’s services, educational programs and the current Telegraph Office relocation and restoration project.. The sale will include the usual rummage sale type items plus antiques, furniture, home decor and tools. Special items already donated include original artwork, tools, jewelry, Avon bottles and much, much more. The Museum will also have reprints of historic photos for sale and a collection of antique bottles donated as a fund-raiser.

Phoenix AZ (April 22, 2014) – The Arizona Game and Fish Department implemented Stage 1 fire restrictions at all department wildlife areas on Friday, April 18. The restrictions are part of the restrictions issued by the Arizona State Forestry Division on state-owned and state-managed lands outside incorporated municipalities due to the increased risk of wildfire in the state.

Cottonwood AZ (April 22, 2014) – Kumu Hula (Hula Master) Kehau Chrisman from Hawaii is announcing the start of a “Beginner Women’s Hula class” for women 15 and older.  Weekly classes will be held on 6 consecutive Mondays, May 5 through June 9 @ 7–8 PM. Chrisman, formerly of Hawaii and now a Cottonwood resident, trained in Hawaii for 17 years to reach the highest rank of Hula Master (similar to a PhD in Hula) following rigorous hula protocols taught by well-known and respected masters in Hawaii’s hula legacy.

Phoenix AZ (April 21, 2014) – Newly released Map the Meal Gap data again shows almost 1 in 5 Arizonans (17.8%), or 1.17 million people, struggled with food insecurity in 2012.  More alarmingly, more than 1 in 4 Arizona children (28.2% – an estimated 456,760) also suffered from food insecurity in that same time period.  While these figures are a decrease from the 2011 apex, when 19.1% of Arizonans and 29.9% of Arizona children struggled with food insecurity, they are still above 2009 food insecurity levels that spiked at the onset of the recession.

Non-Profit will lead revitalization effort Verde Valley AZ (April 18, 2014) – Organized by a non-profit organization dedicated to community service, the Amigos del Verde Valley Volunteer Coalition will lead a ‘Lend a Hand’ yard revitalization effort to benefit elderly and persons with disabilities in Bridgeport, Clarkdale, Cottonwood, and the Verde Villages on Saturday, April 26, 2014 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.  Amigos volunteers also recently built two wheelchair ramps for Bert Cisneros, a Verde Village paraplegic, and will build safety rails for an elderly woman in Bridgeport.
