There Is A Way Beyond Darkness By Barbara Mayer Sedona AZ (August 14, 2014) – Many of us will never have to worry about becoming celebrities, yet for some people who live in that world, the pressures of fame and fortune can also reach into the darker side of depression – which does not care how much fame or money anyone has. The suicide of comic genius Robin Williams has touched many of us with near disbelief. He was the man of joy and laughter. He was the master of comedy who could help us forget the pressures and pains…

By Ted Grussing … you are looking at a somewhat agitated Rufous Hummingbird beginning enforcement action against a horde of invading bees. The bees tend to block the holes in the feeders and these little guys clear them out … they are in charge … for a few minutes and then it all begins again. I had to get away from the area as the bees were pretty aggressive … I did get quite a few nice shots though. Thanks to Terry for getting me straightened out on the spelling of these beautiful creatures … Rufous, not Rufus … smiles.
A Response to the Letter to the Editor by Joanne Kendrick By Juliette Colangelo Those of us who worked long and hard, for years, to preserve Sedona’s dark skies, and who became knowledgeable about dark skies, understand all too well Councilwoman Litrell’s statements regarding Sedona’s not meeting requirements, and also her statement that Sedona does not deserve, the designation. Those of us who fought the faction in Sedona who were hell-bent on having CRL installed on Sedona’s formerly dark main street, ignoring information from the IDA itself regarding the degradation of dark skies that would result from such an installation, those of us who…

By Mike Schroeder(August 13, 2014) It is a shame that the political season brings the worst out of normally good people. The back stabbing, the slanderous comments, the lifting of words out of context all to get YOUR person elected. The voters need to pull the curtain back and see who is pulling the levers. Always a good practice is to “follow the money”. When you do that, the dirt in politics and the people pushing the dirt becomes apparent.

Andy Dickey, Assistant Community Development Director/City Engineer Sedona AZ (August 13, 2014) – With monsoon activity there is the potential for flooding which may result in damage to buildings and property. In response, the City accelerated construction of capital drainage projects and programmed future projects in the areas impacted by past flooding. These projects focus on the downstream or impacted area of the drainage basins, and include infrastructure improvements that minimize damage due to flood waters.

By Ted Grussing … a photographer who lives in Anthem commenting on her favorite photo articulates that “it is usually the next one I take” … or something close to that. That is one of the things that keeps you going because you know that the next shot you take of a subject will be better than the last shot you took of the same subject … perhaps the lighting is better, fewer shadows, whatever. So on the morning walk up to Eric’s house to feed the hummers I gave some thought to getting a shot of a hummer feeding…
