Flagstaff AZ (February 25, 2015) – Using one of the Department’s Bell 407 helicopters named Ranger 42, a DPS Air Rescue crew stationed in Flagstaff, worked for more than nine hours February 24th to extract 20 stranded Northern Arizona University (NAU) students and staff to safety from the snow-packed Kanab Creek in the North Rim area.

Cottonwood AZ (February 24, 2015) – UPDATE – On February 23,2015, the State dismissed the charges against the three juveniles from Mingus Union High School accused of committing kidnapping and sexual assault on January 31, 2015. They have been released from custody. The investigation by the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office is ongoing and additional information is expected. A final charging decision will be made by the County Attorney’s Office when all information is received. The County Attorney would like to remind the public that these individuals remain innocent until proven guilty in court.
By Ted Grussing … to skiing the slopes is this (might even be better) … flying the ridge below the top and staying in that beautiful unseen flow of orographic lift coming up the slopes bent from horizontal by the mountain and rising as you go along the mountain. Very anxious to run the slopes with the GoPro mounted out on the wing to get some beautiful video along the sides of the mountains. Sedona AZ (February 23, 2015) – The Sedona Arts Center Ceramics Department’s outreach program traveled to Nicaragua with Dr. Julie Williams to join her nonprofit Humanitarian Efforts Reaching Out (HERO) for an 8-day humanitarian mission last month. SAC Department head Dennis Ott and ceramics student Lew Reilly worked with representatives from Potters for Peace, a nonprofit worldwide humanitarian organization, to build a kiln that will enable locals to create clay water filters for purifying drinking water and vessels for irrigation.

Ankle Bracelet places 1 of the Suspects at Crime Scene Cottonwood AZ (February 20, 2015) – On January 1, 2015, 3 male suspects broke into a parked travel trailer on Old Hwy 279 in Cottonwood. The trailer owner intended to celebrate the New Year at the trailer with her family, but due to the cold weather and road conditions, the plan was delayed leaving the trailer unoccupied.
