Flagstaff AZ (January 16, 2013) – The U.S. Forest Service will join in the celebration of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, by waiving day-use fees on Jan. 21 that are associated with many recreation sites on the Coconino National Forest. This fee-free day is being offered in cooperation with other agencies that collect recreation fees under authority of the Federal Lands Recreation Enhancement Act (REA), including: the National Park Service, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and the Bureau of Land Management.

Flagstaff AZ (January 16, 2013) – Flagstaff Area National Monuments will be joining national park units around the country as they waive entrance fees on Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, in recognition of his civil rights efforts. Entrance fees will be waived for all visitors to Sunset Crater Volcano, Walnut Canyon and Wupatki National Monuments on January 21, 2013. Visitors arriving in the monuments on January 21 will enter free of charge. The visitor centers will have Interagency Senior and Annual Passes available for those who wish to purchase them.

Sedona AZ (January 16, 2013) – Wilson Mountain Trail, near Midgley Bridge in Sedona, will be closed tomorrow and Friday while Century Link replaces a damaged telephone pole near the trail in Oak Creek Canyon. The damaged pole replacement is near where the telephone line crosses the trail, and due to safety concerns about the line during the pole replacement, the trail will be closed during the construction. Flagstaff AZ (January 15, 2013) – A Cornville resident was recently arrested in Coconino National Forest for illegal woodcutting, interfering with the law and resisting arrest, and was ordered to pay $1,000 in restitution after being jailed for seven days.
