Sedona AZ (February 28, 2014) – Anne Crosman of the Village of Oak Creek, and Mike Capozzoli of Sedona were medal winners in the Arizona Senior Olympics Track and Field events held on Saturday, February 15, at Saguaro High School, Scottsdale, AZ.  The Arizona Senior Olympics continue through March. Anne Crosman won a gold medal in the women’s 4/100 meter relay (age group 65-69) and a gold medal in the women’s 1500 meter race walk (age group 65-69). Sedona AZ (February 28, 2014) – Poet Zachary Kluckman features at the third Sedona Poetry Slam of 2014, which kicks off at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, March 8, at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre, 2030 W. Sedona AZ (February 28, 2014) – The Sedona Arts Center is hosting the largest and most diverse raku ceramics exhibition that has been held in the United States in over 15 years. “Raku Ceramics: Origins, Impact and Contemporary Expression” takes place March 7–17, 2014 in the Special Exhibition Gallery at the Sedona Arts Center. Barbara Litrell and John Neville at OLLI Sedona AZ (February 26, 2014) – Arizona Public Service (APS) will begin installing “smart” meters in Sedona on Sunday, March 31.  However, In 2013, both the Sedona City Council and the Big Park Council voted to request that this installation not go forward.  Nevertheless, Sedona residents will soon need to decide whether to allow APS to install a smart meter on their home or to “opt out” and pay a monthly fee to keep the current meter reading procedure.  To aid people in making that decision, a dialogue will be held at the…

Focus Groups and Media Survey Aim to Improve Outreach Clarkdale AZ (February 26, 2014) – Yavapai College has commissioned a series of focus groups that will be tasked with sharing their thoughts on the public’s perception of the Verde Valley campus.  The groups, along with a county-wide media preferences survey are being conducted by the college’s marketing and communications department with the goal of gathering information that will improve community outreach and service.

Sedona AZ (February 26, 2014) -On Friday, March 7, Pop Up Sedona Gallery will be highlighting a popular local jeweler and fabric artist, Kelly Patton.  In addition, many of the gallery’s other artists will be on hand to meet and greet the public and talk about their work. The First Friday reception will include wine and refreshments and will take place from 5-8 p.m. Kelly Patton has always had art in the background or foreground of her life.

Sedona AZ (February 26, 2014) – As a longtime Sedona resident, artist David Fischel is renowned locally and nationally for his distinctive carvings and paintings. He has a painter’s eye for color and a sculptor’s love of form. Fischel is also known for the grand scale of his works.  Currently on display in the lobby at Enchantment resort is his unique painted wood relief carving Blue Ribbon, an imposing piece that is over 8 feet high and took over sixteen months to complete.

Sedona AZ (February 25, 2014) – Verde Artist Challenge’s “A River Runs Thru Us” has traveled upstream! After a couple of months touring the Phoenix region, the exhibit will open at the Sedona Public Library on March 3rd. There will be an opening reception during Sedona’s First Friday Art Walk on March 7th at 6pm. “A River Runs Thru Us” is a group exhibit created by Verde Valley Land Preservation (VVLP) that invites the public to make a heart connection with the Verde River through 30+ works of art.

Future of the Colorado Plateau Forum: Clean Energy Flagstaff AZ (February 25, 2014) – Experts from the National Renewable Energy Lab and the U.S. Department of the Interior are coming to Flagstaff to participate in a clean energy public forum at the Museum of Northern Arizona at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 26. The Future of the Colorado Plateau Forum: Clean Energy is designed for the community to share its perspectives and clean energy ideas. The forum will focus on alternative means for the region to meet electric needs and reduce carbon to our atmosphere. 

Tucson AZ (February 25, 2014) – How can Arizona ensure a safe, reliable water supply, now and in the future? The University of Arizona Water Resources Research Center (WRRC) will host a conference on April 8 – “Closing the Gap Between Water Supply and Demand” – to explore our state’s options for meeting future water needs.
