By Ted Grussing If for a moment you can imagine that the image you are viewing is a storm tossed shore you can quickly see monster waves crashing over the red rocks of Sedona during the recent Slide Fire. The winds were actually fairly calm when I took this shot, but even air heavy with the burden of smoke is light enough that the appearance of crashing waves is observed.
Clearing drainage in preparation for monsoon run-off Sedona AZ (June 23, 2014) – ADOT maintenance crews will be cleaning out several culverts through the SR 89A “switchbacks,” between mileposts 387 and 390, Tuesday through Thursday (June 24 -26). This seasonal maintenance is done in preparation of the upcoming summer monsoon, in anticipation of run-off from rain storms. The highway will be narrowed to one lane at times between 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. daily.
Three rest areas participating, more sites to come Verde Valley AZ (June 23, 2014) – Visitors to rest areas along state highways will begin to notice recycling containers onsite since the Arizona Department of Transportation started a recycling program at three rest areas with plans to expand it statewide. The program involves partnering with recycling vendors to install 8-cubic-yard bins and smaller blue containers at the rest areas for travelers to use for their recyclable trash. The vendor will collect the recyclables at least once a week.

Cornville AZ (June 23, 2014) – The Cornville Farmers Market continues weekly at Windmill Park every Monday from 4 PM until the veggies run out. Set up is available from 3:30 PM and vendors must supply their own tables, chairs, shelter, cooler, ice, etc. and must set up, take down, and clean their own area. Spaces are available on a first-come, first- served basis. After unloading, vendor vehicles are to be parked outside the park or as directed by the Market Manager. Alcohol is not permitted in the park.

Sedona AZ (June 21, 2014) – Boynton Canyon Trail will be temporarily closed due to increased black bear activity and to insure public safety as personnel from Arizona Game and Fish Department evaluate the situation. Recreationists may still park at the Boynton Canyon Trailhead and use Deadmans Pass, Aerie, and Mescal Trails. The nearby Long Canyon, Fay Canyon, and Aerie Trails are also open for hiking into the Red Rock Secret Mountain Wilderness Area while Boynton Canyon Trail is closed.
