Sedona AZ (January 26, 2016) – The City of Sedona Engineering Services has recently installed signs informing motorists of the City’s ordinance which prohibits the use of hand held cell phone use while driving. The city code was approved by the Sedona City Council and became effective August 22, 2014. Since that time the police department has been issuing verbal warnings to motorists who have been in violation of the new code. Sedona AZ (January 26, 2016) – The Sedona Visual Artists’ Coalition (SVAC) is offering two scholarship grants in the amount of $500 each, to graduating seniors from Sedona Red Rock High School (SRRHS) and/or Mingus Union High School (MUHS) this spring.  Applicants must have had a minimum of two semesters of high school art courses, and have plans to pursue higher education in the 2016-17 school year, anywhere in the United States, in any of the visual arts.  The scholarships are available for two-year, and four-year colleges and universities as well as vocational and technical schools.

Sedona AZ (January 26, 2016) – The Red Rock District of the Coconino National Forest is seeking public comments on the proposal to add non-motorized trails to the official trail system in the area of Rimrock, Cottonwood and Sedona.The proposal includes a trail to link the existing Cliffrose Trailhead to the Lime Kiln Trail on the outskirts of Cottonwood near Mingus Avenue; a trail to cross Wet Beaver Creek near Montezuma Well National Monument, and several trails at the west end of the City of Sedona that would connect with the current Girdner Trailhead near the Red Rock High School.

Sedona AZ (January 25, 2016) – On Sunday, January 17, 2016, at approximately 00:37 am Sedona Fire District (SFD) emergency crews were dispatched to a reported rescue in a remote area in the Coconino National Forest west of Bear Mountain. Crews worked through the night and were able to complete the rescue by about 5:30 am.  Initial crews arrived in challenging conditions that included difficult terrain, ice and cold weather that made it difficult to gain access to the site by foot and/or motor vehicles.

Sedona AZ (January 23, 2016) – The Mental Health Coalition Verde Valley (MHCVV),in partnership with the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute,  is launching “Mental Health Monday” on February 1 at Yavapai College Sedona Campus, 4215 Arts Village Dr.The new, free, monthly program is open to the public and will consist of three parts: a speaker from 9:30-10:30AM, the Coalition business meeting from 10:30-11:30AM, and a film and community conversation in the evening from 6:30-8:30PM.
