Sedona AZ (May 12, 2017) – The Sedona International Film Festival contributed nearly $4 million to the local economy in 2017, according to a report prepared by the Northern Arizona University W.A. Franke College of Business, Alliance Bank Business Outreach Center.The survey was sent to 758 individuals who purchased tickets for the 2017 Festival and generated a robust 65 percent response.

Over the years the house has been rented to a number of groups. Recently the Library decided to make that space available for the Friends of the Sedona Library to offer books and other items for sale year-round.

Attempted to force his way into Occupied Hotel Room Sedona AZ (May 11, 2017) – On May 4, 2017, around 4AM, 37-year-old Brandon Mandeville from Cottonwood committed the following violations: Driving on a Suspended License, Leaving the scene of an accident, Criminal Damage, Resisting Arrest, and Possession of drug paraphernalia. Mandeville was observed by witnesses exiting a crashed van in the 2900 block of S Salt Mine Rd, Camp Verde. The van, a blue 1997 Chevrolet, struck a fence and damaged a main cable distribution box. Flagstaff AZ (May 11, 2017) – The Museum of Northern Arizona (MNA) presents the 27th Annual Zuni Festival of Arts & Culture May 27-28, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Flagstaff. More than 50 Zuni artists and performers will participate in this weekend-long event held at MNA, 3101 N. Fort Valley Road.Ticket prices are $12 for adults and $8 for seniors (67+), students (with ID), American Indians (with tribal affiliation) and youths 10-17. Children under 10 are free. The festival is presented in partnership with the A:shiwi A:wan Museum and Heritage Center (AAMHC) in Zuni, N.M.
Sedona AZ (May 11, 2017) – Celebrate the centennial of the historic Ranger Station house at a free public celebration May 20, 11 a.m.- 2 p.m. The house on the property is the oldest building in Sedona; it and an adjacent barn built in 1934 are listed on the National Register of Historic Places and are designated as Sedona Historic Landmarks.The Sedona Historic Preservation Commission is hosting the celebration.

With Mother’s Day coming up I had to send this shot out. I took it down at the ponds over the weekend and was pleased to see several hen mallards with their broods of fresh life on the water. Not much else and the wind was blowing pretty good so no predators plying the sky.

Sedona AZ (May 10, 2017) – The city is beginning the sixth year of its Pre-Monsoon program, in which Public Works Department staff inspects public and private drainage ways in residential and commercial areas. The May through June inspections identify debris, dirt, trash and vegetation in drainage ways that could block the flow of storm water or be carried downstream during a monsoon storm.

Residents are worried that an influx of new hotel rooms will exacerbate traffic and congestion, threatening the tranquility and natural beauty for which Sedona is known. Numerous articles and extensive research support their concerns: oversupply of hotel rooms can be very detrimental to an area. In response to the City’s request for the Sedona Lodging Council’s position, we would like to share our opinion on this matter.

By Ted Grussing… about seven years ago, friends Clyde and Joan gave us a cut off from one of their Argentine Giant Cactus plants … we love them and the beautiful look into the depths of forever, like the fictional universe in Greg Bear’s book Eon … traveling along The Way. For years the plant stayed alive, but neither grew nor produced a bloom. Cork kept hoping for it to bloom, but never got to see it occur. This year it has grown and the first of three blooms has appeared and I took this shot of it this afternoon…
