Verde Valley AZ (January 18, 2018) – Verde Valley RAIN (Rural Activation and Innovation Network) is pleased to announce grants are available for Verde Valley organizations seeking to build or expand informal education programs/experiences with a STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) focus. Informal education programs are eligible to apply if they take place outside of school hours; they can also target other populations or entire communities. By Ted Grussing… it’s getting to be that time of year when creatures are beginning to pair off for the annual mating rituals and these Coots appeared to be joining in the fray when I was down at the ponds this afternoon, or perhaps they were having a misunderstanding of some sort. In any event they put on a good show for me.
Sedona AZ (January 17, 2018) – On Saturday January 27th at 630 pm, at The Hub at Sedona Posse Grounds, there will be a celebration of the birthday of author and environmental activist Ed Abbey. Several of Sedona’s most notable voices will lend their talents so that the words of Edward Abbey can be heard once again. Abbey’s works, both fiction and essays concern themselves with preserving America’s wilderness and bolstering individual liberties. Abbey’s most famous works were the nonfiction classic Desert Solitaire and the novel The Monkey Wrench Gang a call to militant defense of the earth. Abbey was famous for confounding his enemies and inspiring his admirers.

By Ted Grussing… with everything set, our Greenhead friend is cruising down the pond waiting for his sink rate to bring him into contact with the watery runway beneath his webbed feet; as he settles onto the water his feet act as water ski’s and as he slows he settles into the water throwing up a large spray of water … this photo captures the hang time and about a tenth of a second after I took this shot the feet touched the water and the spray began to fly as he settled.
Clarkdale AZ (January 16, 2018) – Get moving and have some fun at Contra Dance in Clarkdale, Saturday, January 20th. Contra dance is an energetic dance form with some similarities to square dance–see examples on Youtube. Michael Barraclough will call every dance to the live tunes of Just Desserts. Calls continue throughout the County as suspects invoke the names of Police Officers, County Attorneys, and even a local JudgePrescott AZ (January 15, 2018) – In late December, a 42-year-old Prescott man contacted the Sheriff’s Office to reported losing money in the ‘jury warrant scam.’ The victim had received a call purportedly from a deputy at the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office and was told he had a $4000 warrant for his arrest because he was a no show for jury duty. The scam suspect indicated that if the warrant was not paid, a deputy would be out to arrest him.…
