Cottonwood AZ (November 15, 2014) – This past Wednesday, YCSO dispatchers received a welfare check request involving an elderly man in Cottonwood. The request was declined as an inappropriate use of law enforcement resources. Welch then indicated he wanted deputies to check on the man due to health concerns. By Ted Grussing … I got this Greenhead a few days ago and it doesn’t look like he remembered to lower his landing gear (webbed feet to ski on and decelerate before going down into the water. Love those sheets of water coming up though and the rooster tail coming up behind him. Seems to have a look of self-satisfaction too … wouldn’t it be cool to come in like that? I think most of us have done a pool emptying entry at one time or another … but this is elegant.

By Ted Grussing After an appointment in Cottonwood this morning I stopped by Bubbling Ponds on the way home hoping to see new residents there and found a lot of new arrivals; Widgeons, Ring Necks, some new Mallards (they jump, full time residents continue to bask in the sun as you walk by). The new arrivals are still used to being shot at by anyone who happens along so they are getting up sometimes before you even get to the pond they are feeding and relaxing on … soon enough they will learn that cameras do not put out #4…

By Ted Grussing … the NW slope of Mingus mountain has some of the most beautifully eroded slopes I have seen. I took this photo last Friday at about 5PM and with the sun setting at about 5:25P the shadows were growing and accentuating the eroded lines. The basic direction you are looking is to the N; just below the horizon on the left is Bill Williams Mountain and above and to the right of it you can see the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, then further to the right Sitgreaves Mountain, further to the right is Kendrick Peak…

By Ted Grussing … it was a terrific trip over to Albuquerque and so far the feedback I have received on the presentation is very favorable. The workshop was well attended and everyone in attendance is looking for ways to minimize the impact of forest restoration and a lot of good ideas are being floated including giving areas good breaks in burning, better weather modeling, not burning during certain periods when tourism is high, doing larger areas of burning in a shorter period of time to minimize the drip, drip effect of smaller burns which produce lots of smoke over…
