By Ted Grussing About a year ago Eric asked me to join him on and early morning shoot at a cattle pond that he had found and which during the early morning hours was a haven for many bird species … including these blue birds. I like this one a lot with two dropping in to join their buddies for a drink and clean up a bit … sounds like something straight out of the old west … fun.

By Ted Grussing … today that is, and it did it very well … my primary computer station is currently down for a complete physical relocation of assets … going back to four monitors and in an effort to regain a measure of control over my work flow the monitors are being mounted on two dual monitor stands. This gives me a huge boost in available desktop space … that translates into more room for One to stretch out and likely enough room for me to work at the same time. Should have it back up and running tomorrow sometime.

Sedona AZ (February 18, 2015) – Many different media are associated with the works of Native American artists (painting, weaving, pottery, carving, silversmithing, etc.), and many well-known artists have worked quite successfully in each of them. But traditions, methods, and materials will inevitably evolve, influenced by the cultures and technologies that surround them. The twenty first century is particularly fertile ground for this, with the emergence of new styles and new techniques that skilled artists can blend with time-honored traditions and practices.
Sedona AZ (February 18, 2015) – In November of 2014, the Sedona Art Museum received its nonprofit 501(c)(3) status, added three new members to the Board of Trustees, and formed a Marketing Committee. At that point, some changes then seemed inevitable. Kellie Ann Garsed-Donnelly, one of the new trustees, took on the role of Marketing Chair almost immediately. She is a creative professional with an Arts Administration background and more than 15 years in marketing, management and educational technology experience in a variety of corporate, academic and non-profit environments. The marketing committee felt it was the right time to refresh…
Sedona AZ (February 17, 2015) – On February 15, 2015, just after 1 PM, YCSO deputies were called out to the Thunder Mountain Trail on Capitol Butte in Sedona regarding a 66-year-old man from Idaho who was stuck on a ledge. The man had hiked to the top of Capitol Butte and upon descent he took the wrong trail which led him to an area where he could no longer descend, in part, because of a prior shoulder injury. The man was calm during his contact with deputies and remained stationary as requested.
By Ted Grussing One of my all-time favorite composites is the original Astro Squirrel; it is a shot I took of a backlit squirrel in the trees in the arroyo between the 2nd fairway and the 8th tee box and shot from the 8th tee box. When I looked at that shot I just knew that it projected more than just a happy squirrel and I got to work and created the first composite of the squirrel and the universe of which he and we are all a part of. I have sold more of that composite than any other…
Sedona AZ (February 17, 2015) – Rosemary Ellen Guiley’s meditation circles are a powerful immersion experience combining sacred sound, sacred text, silence, and sitting and walking meditations. Sacred sound includes chanting for balancing the hemispheres of the brain. Sacred text includes short readings from the Egyptian Book of the Dead concerning the immortality of the soul and the celebration of all things in creation. Periods of silence enable profound spiritual insights to emerge. Sitting meditation is varied with the Zen practice of kinhin, a silent, clockwise walking meditation that directs the flow of the universal life force through the body…
By Ted Grussing … after my first, but before my second sugar free vanilla latte this morning (each is laced with three shots of espresso) I headed out for my morning walk and somewhere along the path I heard a Cardinal but had trouble locating it … finally found it and here is that beautiful flying machine. Then it was breakfast and out and resumed patching stucco as I am hoping to get the next long leg of our home (the deck side) painted this week. Three hours of that and then into town to have another SFV Latte with…
By Warren Woodward, Sedona Resident(February 16, 2015) Some State Senators got the idea to gut Arizona’s Open Meeting Law. By Henry Twombly, Sedona Resident(February 15, 2015) Nearly every time I volunteer at the library lately, some headline piques my interest. After I scrutinize the article, I feel compelled to write a response. This time it was “City plans economic development.” The article acknowledges that Sedona is “a tourist-based community” and that past efforts to diversify the economy has met “with little success.” One reason is that the City has “just 78 acres of vacant commercial land.” The Council suggested options for this land use were “creek access, better use of Sedona Cultural Park, a museum, a recreation center, a…

By Ted Grussing … today was one of those days that has to come along every once in a while that helps define the truly good days. Kind of a minor disaster in many regards, but it all ended up okay. After picking up another bag of premium food for our birds and some wax to do the plane it looked like I might be able to get a 20 or 30 minutes flight in before sunset. Quick shot up to the airport and about 5:30PM it was into the air and got some good stuff. I also was using…
