By Ted Grussing A beautiful day today … wind … friends … and One has told me that she will allow me to stay … at least for a while. In return I have her looking out at her kingdom and she is basking in the rays of the sun which were intended solely for her.

By Ted Grussing I went for a walk late afternoon and as I rounded the corner onto Moons View Rd I saw some beautiful Argentine Giant Cactus in Dan & Joann’s yard receiving the last rays of the day before dark enveloped them for the night. In a few hours daylight will once again bathe them in a soft glow. I have a special affinity for these blooms and every time I see them they remind me of the singularity in Greg Bear’s books … it has been a while since I have read them and perhaps time to reread…
By Ted Grussing … as so frequently happens with downwind landings in high winds, things tend to go a wee bit wrong. I took this shot of a Blue Heron at the ponds this afternoon and the winds were blowing, he took off downwind and landed downwind. He was coming in pretty hot and you can see him in this photo just after he completed his first landing and was airborne again and looking to touch down again soon; full airbrakes were deployed! The next landing was successful and he stuck.
A Sharing of DiscoveriesBy Barbara Mayer Sedona AZ (March 30, 2014) – With this new year new ideas have come for this column, and as we tiptoe into the first stages of the Age of Aquarius, one of the chief characteristics of this new way of being on the planet is emphasis on compassion and inclusion of all in our one human family. Many are aware of the archetype of Kwan Yin as “One who hears the cries of the world” and in my Sedona Scene/SedonaSoul columns I will highlight some ways we can become positive voices who are willing…
By Dwight Kadar, Sedona Resident(March 30, 2014) On Saturday, March 29, United States Speaker of the House, John Boehner, attended a fund raiser in Marana, Arizona in support of Andy Tobin (CD1) and Martha McSally (CD2). Openly playing favorites before Arizona voters have an opportunity to select their nominees is exceedingly troubling and totally inappropriate. Arizona voters should be able to decide who their candidates are in contested Congressional primary elections without interference from Washington insiders. Arizona voters are capable of vetting and selecting candidates to represent Arizona’s Congressional Districts and do not need Washington’s help. Speaker Boehner, let Arizona…

By Ted Grussing I have learned that the hawk I labeled as a Black Hawk is actually a Zone Hawk which is much rarer than the Common Black Hawk I thought it was. Common has nothing to do with rarity or the lack thereof, but refers to the size of the bird and thus the “Common” simply means the normal size. The Zone Hawk is actually a rarer bird and he was dining on one of his favorites … lizards. I wonder if the lizard had going flying on his bucket list? I also wonder when people tell me flying…
By Dr. Marta AdelsmanLife Coach in Communication and Consciousnesswww.DrMartaCoach.com(March 28, 2014) The clock let me know in no uncertain terms that my usual bedtime had come and gone. My brain felt tired and foggy as I sat at my computer, struggling to stay awake enough to complete the project on which I worked. Yet I didn’t perceive that I had a choice. My thoughts kept pounding, “You have to get this done now!” The more I attempted to focus and concentrate, the more resistant and irritable I felt.
By Ted Grussing … there was an emergency meeting of the local Eastern Collared Lizards in Sedona this afternoon. Due to aggressive misbehavior by the Black Hawks in the region they are imposing sanctions on the Black Hawks … they have threatened to have fewer offspring which could decimate the population of Black Hawks with a decrease in the available food supply … surely this would deter the Black Hawks from their bad behavior. At 3:09 this afternoon the Black Hawks issued their response … they decided to take out the leaders of the Lizard movement that made the threats…
By Vice Mayor Mark DiNunzio Sedona AZ (March 26, 2014) – Spring has sprung! What a glorious time of the year! Nature is alive with trees budding and flowers blooming. Our air is briskly cool in the morning and warmly invigorating on our backs in the afternoon. Folks are outdoors enjoying their surroundings. We are truly blessed to live in such a paradise. Spring is an active time of renewal. So, it is too for your city government.
By Ted Grussing One thing I hear a lot is how can you be so consistently positive, or words to that effect. The answer is really simple and that is that I choose to view the world and events in a positive/cheerful manner. That opens the way for a lot of good stuff … friends, fun, smiles and just that really good feeling you get when the warm sun splashes its love all over you and a cool breeze wraps you in a pleasant embrace and brings a smile to your face … you gaze skyward and the soft white…
By Ted Grussing … behind the story … a number of years ago the National Park Service closed off access to the summit of Sunset Crater NE of Flagstaff, AZ. Ostensibly the reason given was the preservation of the beautiful crater which formed from a volcanic eruption nearly a thousand years ago. I was able to dispel this assertion on a flight a few years ago. It seems that they keep the secrets by barring anyone from climbing the crater and hide it from aerial view by covering it with a fake cover making it appear to be a normal…
By Steve HammonsTranscendent TV & Media Phoenix AZ (March 24, 2014) – Are we ready for the next steps of knowledge and understanding about leading-edge and forward-leaning scientific, psychological and spiritual discovery connected with unidentified flying objects (UFOs) and other unusual topics? The annual screening of the award-winning documentary film “The Phoenix Lights” in Scottsdale, Arizona, on March 16, along with comments by special guests present, provided opportunities for the audience to consider the possibilities involved with the 1997 case and the many apparent connections to it.
By Ted Grussing This has been an incredible week spent with friends, getting stuff done, enjoying the photographic work of another friend (got too late last night to get my own out), and having a reunion with Mariah. After a busy day around here I headed up to the airport for a late afternoon flight; called Eric just before takeoff and let him know I would be over his home in a few minutes. He got out his trusty 500mm lens and got a number of shots as I circled over his house. The attached is one of shots he…
By Cliff Hamilton Sedona AZ (March 21, 2014) – A depth of experience, facilitative leadership, a researched and reasoned approach to problems and a strong commitment to our community are essential to the people elected to guide our city. I believe I applied those qualities in the time I served on the Sedona City Council, as Sedona’s Vice Mayor and on a variety of boards, committees and community-focused projects in the twelve years we have lived here. I hope to continue to do so.
