Prescribed Burning in the Apache Maid Area Verde Valley, AZ (September 26, 2011) – The recent precipitation and cooler weather has made conditions ideal for fire managers to conduct prescribed burning near the Apache Maid and Rattlesnake Canyon area. Beginning today, Monday September 26 and throughout the week, crews will burn fuel debris in the forest understory within an 1800 acre area, pending approval and favorable conditions. Smoke is anticipated to be minimal from the burn and is expected to disperse quickly without impact to the Verde Valley.

Upper Verde River Wildlife Area Guided Field Tour Sedona AZ (September 23, 2011) – Join the members of the Citizens Water Advocacy Group on Saturday, Oct. 8 for a guided visit to the Upper Verde River Wildlife Area, a wildlife preserve operated by Arizona Game and Fish Department (AZGFD). Located about two miles below the confluence with Granite Creek, the Wildlife Area provides shade, picnic tables, and restroom facilities for visitors. National Public Lands Day events & Red Rock Pass “fee free day” Sedona, AZ (September 23, 2011) – In celebration of National Public Lands Day and to encourage a shared sense of land stewardship, the Forest Service announces another “fee free day” Saturday, September 24, along with several volunteer events.
