Comments Due to ADOT by September 30, 2011

03312011ksblogo1Sedona, AZ (September 26, 2011) – Those members and others, who feel that the I-17 and State Route 179 interchange being designed by ADOT should take into consideration its role as a gateway to the Greater Sedona Area, need to write their written comments to ADOT by September 30, 2011. KSB Board member David Gill has been chosen as the organizations liaison to ADOT for the project. David has developed bullet points, (below) that highlight some of the issues that need to be brought to ADOT’s attention so the final design meets community expectations and is sensitive to issues such as lighting, vegetation, litter, parking and Native American heritage.

Please take the time to inform ADOT of your concerns NOW

During the important initial design stage.

In the next phase of services for the I-17/SR 179 Interchange, our community asks that ADOT incorporate the following elements:

A comprehensive public involvement process to ensure that the final design meets with community expectations and in which we have broad pride of ownership.

An experienced context sensitive design team selected by ADOT, to include an acknowledged, recognized and experienced bridge architect on the design team, to develop and submit alternative designs of the interchange for community input.

Landscaping professionals who understand the high desert vegetation and environment.

Lighting designers familiar with Dark Sky community requirements and who are familiar with architectural lighting in the field of transportation improvements, emphasizing aesthetic lighting over traditional high mast safety lighting.

    Sedona Gift Shop

A Native American design character reflective of our regional Yavapai Apache heritage.

An interchange design that a) has either a remote Park & Ride or strictly discourages any vehicle parking in the vicinity of the interchange; and b) exit ramp designs that promote deceleration when leaving the Interstate.

An interchange design that offers “no refuge for refuse”.

    What Would I Change?
    By Amaya Gayle Gregory

What would I change if I could? You and I both know I can’t, but it’s a fun exercise anyway. I would have been less of a know-it-all on my spiritual journey. It seems to be a side-effect of the path. Spiritual folks develop an all-knowing buffer to protect against their inevitable surrender to the unknown, but understanding that now didn’t make it gentler on me or those I loved, let alone those that I deemed not capable of getting it 😉 Yeah … I’d have dropped the spiritual snob act. I’d have recognized that spiritual radicals are only different on the outside from radical right Christians, and that the surface doesn’t really matter as much as I thought. We are all doing our couldn’t be otherwise things, playing our perfect roles. I’d have learned to bow down humbly before my fellow man, regardless of whether I agreed with him or not. We’re all in this together and not one of us will get out alive. Read more→
