Sedona AZ (November 15, 2011) – As a part of their year-long celebration of Arizona’s 100th year of statehood, the Sedona Heritage Museum is creating and launching an original Radio Theater style show, “Arizona’s Constitutional Convention-You are There”. The script has been created by local playwright Michael Peach. The museum is now calling for volunteer actors to read for roles. The openings at this time are for men only. Participation will require familiarization, not memorization, with the radio-style script, approximately three rehearsals and the two planned performances on February 11 and 12, 2012.

Sedona AZ (November 14, 2011) – The City of Sedona is sponsoring a lecture about Arizona Statehood in 1912 and America’s pivotal presidential campaign on Saturday, November 19 at 2:00 p.m. at the Sedona Public Library. This free public event is being held to celebrate Arizona’s centennial and to raise local awareness about the state’s history. Charles Schudson, a member of the Historic Preservation Commission, has been collecting memorabilia and studying presidential campaigns for fifty years. Verde Valley, AZ (November 11, 2011) – Arizona Public Service (APS) will be conducting routine vegetation maintenance along several 69 KV utility corridors on the Coconino National Forest located in the National Forest in and around Sedona, Oak Creek Canyon, and south to the Village of Oak Creek. Flagstaff, AZ (November 10, 2011) – For the week of November 14, fire managers on the Coconino National Forest plan to continue prescribed pile burning efforts in various locations across the forest. Burning will depend on the amount of snow received over the weekend. Pile burning requires the right balance of moisture in the fuels: enough to keep flames from spreading to surrounding vegetation, but not so much that the piles themselves are too wet to burn. No prescribed burning will occur tomorrow, Friday November 11.

Sedona AZ (November 9, 2011) – The U.S. Postal Service has unveiled a first-class ‘forever’ stamp commemorating Arizona’s Centennial in 2012. The Sedona Heritage Museum is displaying the 10’x15’ banner unveiling the design for the commemorative stamp. Ed Mell, a native Arizona artist and a stamp collector in his youth, created the stamp design, depicting Cathedral Rock in Sedona. “I actually tried a few different directions before I settled on Cathedral Rock, which I really felt was an icon of Arizona,” Mell said in an interview. Mell said this assignment was a dream come true.
