Erosion protection work scheduled in advance of Monsoon season Sedona AZ (May 2, 2015) – Motorists traveling on State Route 89A between Sedona and Flagstaff should allow for extra travel time as the Arizona Department of Transportation starts a safety improvement project next week to improve erosion protection along the eastern bank of Oak Creek at milepost 385, just south of the switchbacks. Verde Valley AZ (May 1, 2015) – A group of Verde Valley citizens met on April 28 at the Cliff Castle Conference Center, to reorganize and revitalize the Verde Valley Forum for Public Affairs. The new Board of Directors, Executive Committee and Officers were elected to serve through May 2016. Dick Dahl of Sedona was elected president; he had been the organization’s founding president in 1984. Also elected were Jim Eaton, Vice President Operations; Lisa Hirsch, Secretary; and Bill Kusner, Treasurer. Appointments were also made for standing and special committees.

Sedona AZ (May 1, 2015) – The Red Rock Ranger District of the Coconino National Forest has extended the current Forest Order for mountain bikers in specific areas near Sedona in order to protect sensitive resources while it undergoes a comprehensive review and implementation of the trails system in that area. Under the order, mountain bikes must remain on National Forest system trails and are prohibited from cross-country travel in the following areas: Schnebly Hill; Airport Mesa; Carroll Canyon; Schuerman Mountain; and Cathedral Rock.

Sedona AZ (May 1, 2015) – The popular Splash Park is open daily now through September 30 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. for children to enjoy at Sunset Park.  This 1,900 square foot splash park features 8 ground sprays and 5 above grade spray features.  All spray features are on a timer that when activated turn on the water using three different spray sequences.  This efficiently uses the water and keeps children having fun and guessing where the water comes out next.

Verde Valley AZ (May 1, 2015) – MATFORCE announces Ava Byrnes, a 7-year old student from Coyote Springs Elementary School in Prescott Valley, and Danil Pelmenev, a 17-year old student from Red Rock High School in Sedona, are the grand prize winners of the MATFORCE 2015 Youth Poster Contest.  Both winners will receive a $250 cash award.  MATFORCE’s poster contest is an annual event held to raise awareness about the risks of drug and alcohol abuse.  Each winning poster will be featured on MATFORCE substance abuse prevention materials, including; a poster, website and in prevention workbooks for schools.

By Ted Grussing … enough to last a day … a lifetime, but then I repeat myself … and hopefully a chance to do it all over again.  I turned the engine off a few seconds after I took the shot I sent out last night and took a sled ride back to Sedona all the while treated to beauty like this. How good can it get?
