Village of Oak Creek AZ (January 31, 2017) – On January 27, 2017, around 9:15 AM, a 69-year-old Sedona man noticed a hitchhiker with a backpack near the Bell Rock area in the Village of Oak Creek, who looked like he had spent a cold night sleeping outside. The man, soon to become a victim, picked up the hitchhiker who claimed he was trying to get to Mexico. Cottonwood AZ (January 31, 2017) – Verde Valley Fire District responded to a report of a house fire on the 3200 block of E. Grand View Drive on Sunday January 29th, at 10:45am.  The crew arrived to find a residential approximately 50% involved.  Because of heavy fire and smoke conditions the first due crew went into an offensive mode and then transition into a defensive mode. All occupants and pets were reported to be out of the home upon arrival.  A primary searched confirmed everyone was out.

The Mental Health Coalition Verde Valley and Spectrum Healthcare Group are offering a full-day session on Mental Health First Aid training on Friday, February 17, 8AM-5PM at the Cottonwood Recreation Center, 150 S. 6th St., Cottonwood. The 8-hour training is free, open to the public, and each person receives a certificate of completion. Continuing education credit may be available to those attending the 8-hour session.

Cottonwood AZ (January 30, 2017) – Verde Valley Fire District responded to report of a vehicle fire on Sunday January 29, 2017 at Thousand Trails Road, approximately 8:55am.  Upon arrival the Engine Company found a fully evolved pickup truck.  Crews deployed an attack line and extinguished the fire.  A Water Tender was also utilizing for additional water source.
