By Ted Grussing… at least that is what I thought this Great Blue Heron was telling us when he came in and landing on a hazard buoy in Lake Pleasant, this afternoon. Shot time was 4:59P and sunset at 5:19P and we were still about fifteen minutes out from the ramp and dock … and the lighting was absolutely perfect. That is a seagull behind the heron. Not sure what the distance was on this shot, but we did get within 8’ of him. Also great shots of the Pelican, Western Grebe, and gulls.

By Ted Grussing… one of the big deals this time of year is burning slash piles in the forest. Typically the piles are wet and produce an inordinate amount of smoke compared to piles that are dry. There are studies done by the USFS showing that if the piles are covered with plastic for a period of time they tend to burn hot and clean. There are also comments that it is too much work, that the deer and elk eat the plastic and other such comments, so the easy way is taken and since human health is not factored…

By Ted Grussing… this Great Blue Heron was quietly crossing the lake enroute to a new fishing spot on the far side and he is checking out a particular place before banking ever so slightly to change course to his chosen destination. It was a quiet mid-day crossing last April and a welcome outing for me to be in the beauty of nature … it had been one of those kind of weeks and this was a good reminder of those things that are important in life.
