Cornville AZ (June 30, 2020) – On June 28, 2020, at approximately 3 PM, YCSO Deputies were dispatched to the 11300 block of E Oak Grove Lane in Cornville for a reported wild fire threatening structures in the area. The smoke was black and could be seen from approximately 10 miles away. Verde Valley Fire and State Wild Land Fire arrived on scene quickly and eventually were able to control the fire. Still that wasn’t enough for me, so I went hunting for a photo which is more in line than the reality of the day. This is a shot taken from SW of the San Francisco Peaks at 9500′ MSL and the terrain below me was probably around 8,000′ and I was about 3,000′ below the peaks.
Cornville AZ (June 29, 2020) – The Verde Valley Fire District responded to a Interface assignment in Cornville on June 28, 2020 at approx. 3pm. A brush fire started next to several homes and out buildings in the 900 block area on Page Springs Rd. with heavy black smoke visible from around the valley.Crews found two out buildings, grass and various types of brush on fire threatening multiple structures. Limited access and heavy fuel loads in the area made fire suppression difficult. The fire was wind driven and moving quick with spot fires starting 100 to 200 yards down wind.
Cordes Junction, AZ (June 26, 2020) – On June 18, 2020, around 9:15 AM, a YCSO dispatcher received a call of an apparently abandoned dog seen under the I 17 bridge at Big Bug Creek, in the Cordes Junction area. The caller, who was biking to work, indicated the dog became aggressive when he tried to approach. A YCSO deputy was on scene in short order to keep watch on the dog until an YCSO Animal Control Officer (ACO) arrived.
