For Monday December 17: OAK CREEK CANYON: 25 acres located on the south end of Oak Creek Canyon near the confluence with Munds Canyon, near Indian Gardens and Encinoso Day Use Area. ADOT urges motorists to slow down, prepare for winter driving Verde Valley AZ (December 14, 2012) – With the first major winter storm approaching, the Arizona Department of Transportation is ready with its fleet of snowplows to clear state highways of snow and ice. ADOT is advising drivers to slow down during winter storm conditions and to use extra precaution when traveling. The National Weather Service has issued winter weather advisories for northern and southeastern Arizona and 6-10 inches of snow accumulation could occur in the higher elevations, particularly in northern Arizona, beginning tonight and into the weekend.

Flagstaff AZ (December 13, 2012) – In anticipation of the approaching winter weather, engineers on the Flagstaff Ranger District plan to close many forest roads in the Flagstaff area tomorrow. A road is closed when snow and/or rain make it vulnerable to damage by wheeled vehicles and a safety hazard for travelers. Though road closures generally occur winter through spring, closures and re-openings aren’t dependent on a specific timeline, but rather the conditions of the roads themselves.
