Sedona AZ (February 13, 2013) – Last year, in partnership with PetSmart, the Humane Society of Sedona (HSS) held two separate fee waived adoption events and placed over 80 pets into new homes. This included cats, kittens, dogs, puppies and rabbits. These events allow HSS to waive the standard adoption fee and ask adopters to give a donation instead for their new pet. Due to the overwhelming success of the fee waived donation based adoption drive events in 2012, HSS will kick off 2013 with another fee-waived event February 22-24th at PetSmart and the shelter.

Flagstaff AZ (February 12, 2013) – Fire managers on the Coconino National Forest are planning to conduct several pile burn projects next week, pending favorable conditions. OAK CREEK CANYON: Various pile locations between Slide Rock State Park and Munds Canyon. Crews are burning 50 acres today. Smoke is expected to disperse to the east during the day, and settle in Oak Creek Canyon overnight. Crews will stop ignitions early in the day to allow the majority of smoke time to disperse during the day and reduce overnight smoke. Sedona AZ (February 12, 2013) – The City of Sedona Department of Parks and Recreation is seeking various musicians to perform on Thursday, July 4, 2013 prior to the second annual Fourth of July Laser Light Show, which begins at 8:45 p.m. and is held at Posse Grounds Park. Musicians will need to provide their own sound equipment, set up early, and be ready to perform between 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. There will be a 12’ x 16’ stage with one outlet for the performance.

Sedona AZ (February 12, 2013) – The Sedona Community Foundation (SCF) awarded Linda Brecher a grant to the Humane Society of Sedona to have pet food available at the local Sedona Food Bank for people in need who come to the Food Bank for their own human food. The grant will help the Food Bank provide pet food to people who cannot easily afford to feed their animal companions. Phoenix AZ (February 11, 2013) – The Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS) has been advised that northern Arizona, above 5,000 feet, could receive upwards of 5-10 inches of snow accumulation beginning Monday evening and lasting into Tuesday. In addition, low overnight and morning temperatures are expected to cause a hard freeze making highways extremely slippery. If you must travel to the high country, please remember to be patient as traffic will be moving more slowly. DPS will be shifting its Highway Patrol resources to make as many patrolmen available as possible to respond to emergency calls during this period.
