Sedona AZ (February 21, 2013) – Hot Topics Café, a partnership between Philosophy in the Public Interest and the Compassion Project programs at NAU, will hold an open public discussion about taxes at The Sedona Public Library on Tuesday, March 5 from 5:30 to 7PM. The program is free and all are welcome. The facilitator for the discussion will be Dr. John Devlin of NAU’s Franke College of Business and NAU students from philosophy, political science, and in the Franke College of Business will prepare informational sheets that give overviews of competing positions and their economic impacts.

Sedona AZ (February 20, 2013) – Pop-Up Sedona Gallery continues to celebrate its talented diversity of artistry in their Hillside Sedona location. The upcoming event is the monthly First Friday Reception on Mar. 1, 5-8 p.m. The featured artists are Csaba Martonyi, photography and wood sculpture, and Norma Holden, oil paintings. Both will be on hand to meet the public and discuss their work at the gallery’s reception. Special refreshments are provided by the artists during First Friday receptions.

Sedona AZ (February 20, 2013) – Construction of the Sedona Military Service Park at Jack Jamesen Memorial Park is officially underway. A ground breaking ceremony took place on February 7, 2013 recognizing those involved who have helped to make this park a reality. The Sedona Marine Corps League and Sedona Korean American Association sought donations from local groups, including the Sedona 30, to help fund this project. Members of the community also showed their support of this park through monetary and in-kind donations.

Flagstaff AZ (February 20, 2013) – A trailhead and Forest Service road will be closed temporarily, beginning Monday, for reasons of public safety while maintenance is performed. Courthouse Vista trailhead closure The Courthouse Vista trailhead in the Red Rock Ranger District of the Coconino National Forest will be closed beginning Monday through March 1 for maintenance. Work on the connector trail from the Courthouse Vista trailhead between the intersection of the Phone Trail and the Bell Rock Pathway will require heavy equipment at times, so will be closed for public safety.

Detour will add 45 miles around closure using US 160 and SR 98 Phoenix AZ (February 20, 2013) – US 89 in northern Arizona is closed because a 150-foot section of pavement buckled this morning about 25 miles south of Page, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation. The cause is not related to weather and may be a geologic event. US 89 is closed northbound at US 89A, which takes traffic west toward Jacob Lake. Sedona AZ (February 20, 2013) – Keep Sedona Beautiful (KSB), a nonprofit organization of volunteers who are dedicated to being environmental stewards dedicated to preserving the scenic beauty of the greater Sedona area, fielded a team at the Sedona Marathon to raise funds for the KSB Endowment Fund. Six team members participated in three of the events, the 5k, 10k, and the half marathon, and received just over $11,000 in sponsorship donations to the Fund. Two KSB team members did not only KSB but also Sedona proud: they achieved first place in their respective distance/gender/age divisions, the 5k and half-marathon.

Preparing Successful Budgets for Grant ProposalsPresented by Laura Maurer, SCF Advisory Board Member/Grants Chair Sedona AZ (February 19, 2013) – The Sedona Community Foundation will present the 2013 Nonprofit Organization Workshop on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 from 10:00 to 11:30 a.m. in the Sedona Public Library Community Room. The theme for this workshop is Preparing Successful Budgets for Grant Proposals. This workshop offers an overview of conquering the fear of preparing budgets for proposals. Attendees will work with the presenter, Laura Maurer to develop a comprehensive budget on a sample program. Attendees will gain enhanced confidence in budget proposal preparation.
