Sedona AZ (April 3, 2014) – The Sedona Heritage Museum is again presenting their popular historic sites tours of Oak Creek Canyon’s historic places on April 24, 25, and 26. Personal tour guide will be Paul Thompson, a grandson of Oak Creek Canyon’s first permanent Anglo settler and homesteader J.J. Thompson, and son of Albert Thompson who wrote many of the stories in the book “Those Early Days”.
Sedona AZ (April 2, 2014) – On Wednesday, April 2, 2014, at approximately 12:30 pm, the Sedona Fire District responded to a reported injured hiker near the Devil’s Bridge. Upon arrival units determined that an approximately 50 year old female, while hiking with her family, fell about 75 feet. Once on scene, SFD emergency crews determined that the hiker had sustained potentially life threatening injuries.
Verde Valley AZ (April 2, 2014) – Verde Valley Caregivers Coalition invites members of the community to turn their caring into action on Tuesday, April 22, 2 to 4 p.m. at the Cottonwood Library. This “I Care” volunteer recruitment event will focus on the need for more volunteers to help install Guardian Angel medical alert units. Carol Basini, program coordinator, will be available to train and answer questions on the life saving devices.
Sedona AZ (April 2, 2014) – Award-winning author and writing instructor, Kris Neri, has announced the Spring schedule for her two popular novel writing courses – one for beginners and one for those with a work-in-progress or a completed novel – both meeting weekly for six weeks at The Well Red Coyote bookstore in West Sedona. The beginning course begins on Thursday, May 1 at 6:00 pm; and, the intermediate course begins on Tuesday, May 6 at 6:00 pm.
Sedona AZ (April 2, 2014) – The Yavapai County Board of Supervisors will continue the annual free slash drop-off program at county transfer stations for two months beginning April 1. County transfer stations are located in Black Canyon City, Camp Verde, Congress, Mayer, Paulden, Seligman, and Skull Valley. Free slash drop-off will be during normal operating hours.

Flagstaff AZ (April 1, 2014) – FINAL UPDATE – The Secret Fire, reported at 9:00 a.m. on March 29, 2014, is located above the rim near Secret Mountain within the Secret Mountain Wilderness approximately 20 miles southwest of Flagstaff. The fire remains at 6 acres in size and is 75% contained. Monday firefighters mopped up one and a half chains in around the fire (each chain equals 66 ft). Firefighters accomplished progress despite winds. Today the Mesa Hotshots from the Tonto National Forest and local fire personnel will continue mopping up and monitoring the perimeter for any spots.
Flagstaff AZ (April 1, 2014) – FINAL UPDATE – Firefighters made tremendous progress yesterday on the Boulder Fire, reported Saturday March 30 at 1:30 p.m. The fire is located northeast of Flagstaff on Mt. Elden. Cause is under investigation. The fire remains at 1 ½ acres. On Monday, firefighters secured the fire line and mopped up. All resources were off of the fire beginning Monday evening. The fire reported no injuries. The bone piling of partially burned logs will put up some residual smoke. Today fire personnel will assess and monitor the fire.
