‘One Less Spark’ campaign shows how drivers can help prevent wildfires Phoenix AZ (May 20, 2014) – One Less Spark One Less Wildfire. That’s the name of an interagency campaign that the Arizona Department of Transportation will participate in to raise driver awareness of their role in preventing wildfires. The “One Less Spark One Less Wildfire” awareness campaign was started by the U.S. Forest Service and other land management agencies in California in 2012. The campaign focuses on the role drivers and home owners play in helping to prevent wildfires.

Motorists can use I-17 and SR 179 to travel to and from Sedona and Flagstaff Sedona AZ (May 20, 2014) – Planning to travel between Sedona and Flagstaff anytime soon? The Arizona Department of Transportation recommends motorists to plan ahead for potential delays. Beginning on Tuesday, May 27, the three-mile switchbacks section of State Route 89A, located midway between Sedona and Flagstaff, will be closed for up to five weeks for paving and rockfall containment. This construction is located approximately 13 miles north of Sedona, and involves extensive repairs to the area between Pine Flats Campground and Vista Point Overlook.

Sedona AZ (May 19, 2014) – In 2005, a large-scale illegal marijuana garden was discovered in the remote Fossil Springs Wilderness.  The Forest Service, along with other law enforcement agencies, eradicated approximately 20,000 plants in the vicinity of Calf Pen and Sand Rock Canyons.  Nine years passed before funds could be found and resources organized to remove the 1.5 tons of trash left from that illegal operation.  The trash included miles of irrigation tubing bundled into piles during several previous hiking trips.
