By Ted Grussing Even with my aggressive deletion program I have managed to maintain a portfolio in excess of 40,000 images of which more than 500 are of Great Blue Herons all of which are beautiful photographs … still I keep shooting them because I know that I can do better than I have done before and capture that one quintessential image that is the essence of the species.

By Red Rose Team Members Sedona AZ (April 2, 2015) – The key ingredient to ending pet over-population is to spay and neuter. Many rescue organizations for canines and felines will offer free programs to accomplish this! Red Rose has always offered free spay and neuter. We have found over time that even low-cost options were just not enough to remove a financial barrier for some pet owners. Even a low-cost neuter/spay on a large dog can cost approximately $85.00; and if the female is in heat at the time of the surgery the cost can be even higher. As a ‘no kill…

By Ted Grussing I love castles and they evoke memories from a far distant past; guardians, knights, Merlin and Camelot … the mysteries they hold and pass on if you are quiet enough to listen to what they are saying. So out came some photos of Castello di Amorosa in the Napa Valley, photos of the ocean, One and a shot I took on the trip to Monument Valley Derek and I took last year. The story took shape with One being a gatekeeper in hiding and the ocean now converted to a raging river crashing down the slope of…
–How Sedona citizens can influence City decisions on crucial issues By Ron Vernesoni(April 1, 2015) Earlier this year, I read the “Sedona City Talk” in Sedona Biz by the new mayor encouraging citizens to get involved in the “Citizen Engagement” program. Citizen engagement sounds like a good idea, but I believe there may be some confusion about the difference between “citizen engagement” and formalized public participation. I was fortunate enough to move to Sedona in 2000. It is painful to remember how the City has mucked through so many public meetings in the past 15 years on so many…

By Ted Grussing … I knew it might happen someday, but you’re never quite ready for it … the gentleman who serviced the van today recommended senior care lubricants for my ’95 van … he called it high mileage oil (code word for “old”, “over the hill” “one foot in the grave”). Twenty five years just doesn’t seem that old, but there is a possibility that the senior care oil may help prevent a minor loss of essential lubricants … it is good.

By Steve SegnerSedona Resident and Hotel Owner(March 30, 2015) Several years ago I noticed that my mother’s neighbor was renting their home on a nightly basis in Nepenthe subdivision. I contacted the City of Sedona regarding the status of the ordinance that prohibited local residents from renting their homes and/or rooms on a nightly basis. The city did a great job in following up and put a stop to many of the less the 30 day rentals. However, with the advent of vacation rentals and AirB&B.com, the incidents of nightly/weekly rentals are again on the rise.
