Dear Editor, [Attached] you will find a copy of the fundraising publication Paul Gosar distributed to me and other former supports this past December 30th, 2011. Within the text he expresses a fear the media may portray “Support for Congressman Gosar is Weak.”, and states, “That would be devastating to our campaign and our momentum for victory next year.”  He makes these statements all while asking my family for more campaign money to fight Ann Kirkpatrick.  Congressman Gosar’s cowardly choice to run for a safer republican seat, where he doesn’t even live, should be more concerning than not having enough…

By Kohinoor Kar and Mike Cynecki Phoenix AZ (January 10, 2012) – It has been proven by researchers that any kind of distraction while driving, walking or biking poses a major safety issue on our roadways. The nature and intensity of distractions vary from situation to situation. Driver distractions come in many forms, such as texting, using cell phones, children in the vehicle, passionate conversations with other passengers, and eating or drinking while driving. Some people have also been guilty of putting on makeup or doing other “interesting” tasks when they should be concentrating on the road in front of…

(January 9, 2012) – My family has deep roots in farming and dairy in Arizona. Growing up I have always been told that the grass isn’t always greener on the other side. We teach our kids that it’s best to stick it out and that part of life’s challenges is to push through adversity. By changing your environment, it doesn’t always mean your troubles suddenly disappear. In fact, they usually follow.

By Jeremy Duda Flagstaff AZ (January 9, 2012) – U.S. Rep. Paul Gosar confirmed rumors that have been swirling around in political circles for months, announcing on Saturday that he will move to Prescott and seek reelection in Arizona’s new 4th Congressional District. Gosar announced this morning that he’s moving from Flagstaff to CD4, which takes him out of the competitive but Democratic-leaning 1st Congressional District. Prescott is part of his current district, but not the new CD1 he was drawn into during the redistricting process.

A Sharing By Barbara Mayer New Year? New Attitude! As 2012 eases its way into our calendars and our lives, some hints about making the most of this auspicious and sometimes dreaded year can be learned from Sedona’s lessons of 2011. Indeed, while there were many good things which happened in Sedona and the Verde Valley, 2011 saw some disheartening episodes, one of which was the level of personal attack and vicious rhetoric used by some during the Proposition 310 referendum. That sad time for Sedona is in the past now, and all we can hope is that in the…

By Mel Copen New Years is a time for reflection.  So I thought I would update an article I wrote about New Years Day about a decade ago. In reality, there is nothing special about January first.  It’s the day after December 31 and the one before January 2.  Its only tangible element is that it comes 365 days (or 366 in a leap year) after the last New Year’s Day celebration, recognizing the period of time that the earth makes a complete circuit around the sun while spinning on it’s axis approximately 365 ¼ times..  The selection of a…

By Sheila Polk, Yavapai County Attorney, and Chair of Arizona Prosecuting Attorneys’ Advisory Council Verde Valley AZ (January 5, 2012) – A New Year’s prediction: some in the legislature will try to rebrand an old idea. What bombed before as “sentencing reform” will make an attempted comeback this session as “prison reform.” Underneath the new label is the same ill-conceived scheme that failed the last time it was proposed. It goes something like this: release non-violent inmates from our overcrowded prisons and the state will save bundles of money. Arizona lawmakers have wisely shot down this idea in the past.…

Sedona AZ (December 27, 2011) – The focus of my City Talk article today is being a good neighbor and respecting the wildlife with which we share Sedona.  As a City Councilor, I have received several communications from city residents who report that large herds of javelina are roaming their neighborhoods because their neighbors are feeding them.  Wild animals such as javelina, bobcats and coyotes that are attracted to one home often visit neighboring lots.  Continued contact with non-threatening humans can make javelina bold and uninhibited about being in people’s yards and endangering small dogs.  Javelina, who can weigh up…
