On January 28 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m., Sedona Public Library in the Village will celebrate its one year anniversary at Tequa Marketplace and 100 years of statehood.   Lisa Schnebly Heidinger, great granddaughter of Sedona Schnebly, will discuss her book entitled “Arizona:  100 Years Grand.”  This book has been named the official book of the Arizona Centennial and was recently voted the OneBookAZ Award for 2012. After the presentation, Lisa will sign books.  Attend this special event to hear the Big Park Community School Garbage Can Band, purchase raffle tickets to win great prizes, and enjoy a piece of cake.  You can also shop at the book sale featuring books about Arizona.  Join us as we celebrate the library, the community, and 100 years of Arizona statehood.

By Cheryl Yeatts, Manager of Sedona Public Library in the Village

logo sedonapubliclibrarySedona AZ (January 17, 2012) – When I reflect on the year 2011, I continue to be amazed by the “busy-ness” of Sedona Public Library in the Village (SPL-V).  After a great deal of planning, preparation, and physical effort, we opened the doors to our new location at Tequa Marketplace on February 4, 2011. Shortly after, we celebrated with a “Love Your Library” grand opening event, which attracted over 400 people from the community.

photo cheryl yeattsIn 2011 we initiated a Rotating Artists Program to feature art work by local artists.  SPL-V had extended hours during Cinema under the Stars and the Celtic Festival.   Two successful book sales were held at the VOC Fire Station.  In addition, the Arizona Humanities Council in partnership with the Sedona Friends of the Library and the Sedona Library Board of Trustees sponsored twelve programs at Sedona Winds.

Thanks to the efforts of the Sedona Public Library in the Village committee, SPL-V has moved forward.  The committee comprised of Pat Jansen, Ann Meiggs, Gary Rubin, Dotte VandeLinde, Virginia Volkman, Cheryl Yeatts, and Anne Uruburu, SPL Board President, has exciting plans for SPL-V in 2012.

As part of the Rotating Artist Program at SPL-V, the photography of Jim Peterson is currently on display at SPL-V until Friday, February 10.  Mr. Peterson’s exhibit is entitled “Double Vision:  Real and Imaginary Images.”  You will be amazed by this artist’s incredible talent.

Don’t miss the Village Book Sale at the Village Fire Station:   Friday, January 19; Saturday, January 20; and Sunday, January 21.   Hours are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.  All proceeds from this book sale benefit SPL-V.

Ann Meiggs, member of the SPL-V committee, has been working industriously to arrange the Arizona Humanities Council (AHC) programs for 2012.  In honor of Arizona’s centennial, the next AHC program will feature Jim Turner presenting “Arizona’s Statehood with All the Bells and Whistles”.  The program scheduled for Monday, January 23 begins at 1:30 p.m. at Sedona Winds, 405 Jacks Canyon Road.  This program, sponsored by the Arizona Humanities Council and the Friends of the Sedona Library, is free and open to the public.

It’s never too late to become a member of Friends of the Sedona Library.  Your membership offers a great opportunity to support the library.  Membership forms are available at the library.   SPL-V is located in Suite C-102 at 7000 Highway 179 in the courtyard of Tequa Marketplace.  Hours are 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  We are closed Sunday and Monday, but you may use the 24 hour book drops located in the parking lot facing Highway 179 to return library materials from ANY library in Yavapai County.   Thank you for your support and donations to continue library services in the Village.
