By Ted Grussing … for a while … tomorrow it will be on to birds, flowers or wildlife … or perhaps a politician I shot over the weekend … more on that later but just had to get it in :+) Our friend Tom O’Halleran is running for State Senate as an Independent this fall and I shot the photos which will be used in his campaign. He is an easy person to vote for and feel good about it … more later. I’ve been over West Fork observing the past several days and trying out different shoot from positions…

By Ted Grussing The TFR over the Slide Fire area was lifted yesterday [June 6, 2014] late afternoon; this morning [June 7] I went up there to get some more images of the burn area from a lower altitude and tomorrow morning I’ll be doing the same. I had some requests for a photo from near the top of West Fork and the first image [below] Is a shot from about two thirds of the way up the canyon looking down canyon towards the juncture with Oak Creek Canyon. The east wall of Oak Creek Canyon runs from left to right…
By Dr. Marta AdelsmanLife Coach in Communication and Consciousnesswww.DrMartaCoach.com(June 6, 2014) We all have patterns of relating that don’t serve us. Often we don’t even know we have them. You probably know people who engage in a communication game that Eric Berne, in his book Games People Play, called “Ain’t It Awful.” I’m talking about folks who liberally use complaints in their conversations in which a “this-is-terrible” message lies behind almost every sentence.
By Virginia Volkman, Library Director Sedona AZ (June 6, 2014) – Public libraries across the United States are more than just books; they play an important role in building the overall well-being of a community. For more than a year, Sedona Public Library has been helping to improve wellness by screening and educating community members at risk for diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
By Ted Grussing … lots accomplished today and the stack of documents waiting to meet the shredder is growing … I like shredders … they remove things from life that need removing and once removed they are pretty permanently removed.
By Ted Grussing A friend and I went up for a nice early morning flight and it was good to have a minimum of smoke in the air. The slide fire appeared to be unchanged from the previous day and since I have several hundred photos of it over the past days it seemed pointless to go back up over the TFR area again. So where to go? We opted for a nice tour of the area at lower altitudes (7500’) and after leaving Long Canyon heading to the west I took a few shots of this view from roughly…
By James Bishop Jr.(June 3, 2014) Give me silence, water, hopeGive me struggle, iron, volcanoes–Neruda As buzzards circled through the smoke above City Hall, a tourist from Maine mumbled to a lady of the night, “so this is what the end of the world looks like!” “Not so,” reported Josh, an expert member of the legendary, mythical Monkey Wrench Gang, “It’s just Ed. He said he come back, someday. He said he would settle for the sedate career, serene and soaring, of the humble turkey buzzard, the only known philosophizing bird.”
By Ted Grussing Since the Slide fire started there have been so many different theories as to what went right and what went wrong and the USFS could have done this, should have done that and well you get the picture. So I thought this would be a good time to put out the real story. I have been talking with my friend Brian Steinhardt who is the Zone Fire Manager, Verde Valley Center, Red Rock and Verde Ranger Districts and the Coconino and Prescott National Forests. And much of what follows is in his words and should clarify most…
By Ted Grussing The fire crews have done an incredible job and while I am normally no fan of prescribed burns the decision to manage this fire really looks like a great decision. A large percentage of the trees in West Fork appear to be in very good condition and only a few cliff faces have been charred leaving no vegetation on them. On the top, the ignited perimeter fires stopped the advance of fires that came over the top and the areas on top that are burned appear to be pretty small over all. I’m attaching two photos that…
By Ted Grussing … thinking of heading up to the airport in the morning and get some air time; this Black Hawk has his primaries spread and is fine tuning his flight to get better lift and reduce drag resulting in a better climb rate. I can’t spread my primary feathers (last time I checked they were not on the Lambada), but I can crank and bank in a slight slip to increase my climb rate and also use about three degrees of flaps … so natural for this guy … oh well, at least I get to do it…
By Jennifer Perry, Development Director If you’re like many members of our community, you are passionate about the work of your favorite non-profit organization, giving your time and money to show support. However, you may also feel that you are presently limited in the amount of financial support you can offer. Concerns about outliving your resources or the size of the estate you hope to pass on to your heirs are both valid reasons why you might hold back in your charitable contributions.
By Ted Grussing … abound in the real world and it goes without saying that my favorites are those of raptors as they dive for the kill. I took this shot of an Osprey at the ponds a few years ago and he was about twenty feet off the water and diving straight down in excess of 80 mph; he got the fish too. I like this shot of the absolute focus and intensity he is displaying. A few seconds later he was back in the air, talons firmly sunk in his prey. Check those talons out … he had…
By Ted Grussing … another fire … on June 18th 2006 Corky and I went to church and afterwards were on our way to have brunch at Enchantment Resort celebrating her birthday. As we began the drive N on SR 179 from Church of the Red Rocks we saw smoke billowing up in the direction of Brins Mesa … the fire was approximately thirty minutes old. The next hour or so found me taking photographs and this is a shot I took from up on Airport Mesa at the Masonic Lodge and the cross which overlooks the town.

By Mayor Rob Adams Sedona AZ (May 27, 2014) – The most important duty of the City Council is to work with staff in the management of the City budget. The annual budget retreat for fiscal year 2014/2015 was completed on May 1, and was the ninth annual budget that I have participated in. I was appointed to City Council in 2006 during the peak of the economic boom, was elected as Mayor when the country entered the economic recession in 2008, and will leave office in November as the economy moves toward an economic recovery. I can tell you…
