logo_collectivesedonaSedona AZ (June 28, 2018) – The Collective Sedona is pleased to announce a new restaurant, Rotten Johnny’s, will open early July in the space formerly occupied by the Village Grind coffee shop. John and Nikki Ramagli, owners of J  Wine Bistro, also at The Collective Sedona, have been hard at work converting the space into a fun and edgy new casual concept restaurant. Rotten Johnny’s will serve innovative wood-fired pizzas, interesting salads, plus unique beer, wine and cocktails in a lively atmosphere both inside and outside on their spacious back patio overlooking The Collective’s courtyard where lawn games and live music will delight patrons.

20180628_TheWattersThe restaurant is celebrating their grand opening with a live concert in the courtyard featuring Sedona ex-pats, The Watters on Saturday, July 28th at 7:30pm. The Watters seamlessly blend Americana, Soul, Gypsy Jazz, Funk and more in their well-seasoned music. Having lived in Sedona, Los Angeles, Denver, Nashville, and now Austin, the flavor from each of these locales is baked into the foundation of their music. The Watters have garnered a devoted fan base through their high-energy performances, well-crafted songwriting, stirring vocals and road-weathered musicianship. Tickets are $15and  and can be purchased online at RottenJohnnys.com. The public is invited to bring a picnic or to purchase pizza, wine and beer from Rotten Johnny’s. This event is co-sponsored by the Rotary Club of Sedona Village and proceeds from ticket sales will go to the Verde Valley Sanctuary and the Rotary Club Charitable Fund.

The public is invited to a Book Launch Party and Fundraiser on July 21st and 22nd upstairs in Vista Hall. The event will begin at 2:00pm on Saturday, July 21, with the official book launch of Falling to Fly taking place at 7:30pm. Guest speakers will include Jason Pednault, Matheu DeSilva, Jana Cadsby Bell (ARC) and Peruvian visionary artist Mauro Reátegui Pérez, who designed the cover of Falling to Fly and whose paintings will be exhibited – alongside Jungle Visions colleague, Jorge Enrique Ramírez Flores – during the two-day celebration.

After the book has been unveiled and the speakers have had their say, award-winning Americana and Acoustic Soul artist, Stacey Joy (along with a mystery guest musician), will perform a half-hour set to get the party started. The rest of the evening and following day, visitors can mingle, enjoy the exhibition and Jungle Visions/ARC fundraising fair, and get their new books signed by one or both of the authors. There will be complimentary kombucha, chilled guayusa tea and other non-alcoholic beverages served throughout the event. Delicious, healthy, non-GMO, beyond organic meals (dinner on July 21st, brunch on July 22nd) will also be available for purchase.

The Community Market returns every Saturday in July (July 7, 14, 21 and 28) from 9 am to 1pm at The Collective Sedona. The Market offers fresh produce, meats, farm products and tasty treats from local farmers. For more information or to become a vendor, call Joseph at 928-202-0936.

    The Symbolism of Jan. 6

    By Tommy Acosta
Don’t mess with symbols. Just ask author Dan Brown’s character Robert Landon. The worth of symbols cannot be measured. Symbols make the world-go-round. Symbols carry the weight of a thousand words and meanings. Symbols represent reality boiled down to the bone. Symbols evoke profound emotions and memories—at a very primal level of our being—often without our making rational or conscious connections. They fuel our imagination. Symbols enable us to access aspects of our existence that cannot be accessed in any other way. Symbols are used in all facets of human endeavor. One can only feel sorry for those who cannot comprehend the government’s response to the breech of the capital on January 6, with many, even pundits, claiming it was only a peaceful occupation. Regardless if one sees January 6 as a full-scale riot/insurrection or simply patriotic Americans demonstrating as is their right, the fact is the individuals involved went against a symbol, and this could not be allowed or go unpunished.
