logo_townofclarkdaleClarkdale AZ (June 28, 2018) – Following the appointment of Verde Valley Justice of the Peace William Lundy as the Clarkdale Town Magistrate, and execution of an agreement between Clarkdale and Yavapai County, the Clarkdale Magistrate Court will officially open its doors in it new location (10 S. 6th Street in Cottonwood) on July 2, 2018.

The move follows the Clarkdale Town Council’s discussions over the past 10 years about the advantages of some type of shared court services for the Clarkdale Magistrate Court.  Those discussions came to fruition in the past six months when the Town of Clarkdale and Yavapai County decided to move forward with a collaboration that allows for the co-location of the Clarkdale Magistrate Court and the Verde Valley Justice Court.

Under the co-location agreement, the Clarkdale Magistrate Court will retain its legal identity, and is simply co-located and operating out of a shared facility.  Thanks to the remodeling of the space that was undertaken by the Yavapai County Facilities Department as part of the Agreement, customers will interact with Clarkdale Magistrate Court staff from a shared lobby, which has separate customer service windows for both the Clarkdale Magistrate Court and the Verde Valley Justice Court.  The two courts will share courtroom space, prosecuting and defense attorney space, and other common spaces.  Clarkdale Magistrate Court employees remain employees of the Town of Clarkdale, and Judge Lundy is under contract as the Clarkdale Magistrate.

To facilitate the packing and movement of all files, computers and other court equipment, the Clarkdale Magistrate Court is closed for the week of June 25 – 29th.  This morning, the official move to the new facility at 10 S. 6th Street in Cottonwood began.   The Clarkdale Magistrate Court appreciates the understanding of their patrons during this week’s closure, and looks forward to being back to providing full service at their new location on Monday, July 2, 2018.

    If I Were Curtis Sliwa
    By Tommy Acosta

One of my guilty little pleasures is imagining what I would do if I was in someone else’s shoes, especially politicians. In this essay I would love to jump into the shoes of Curtis Sliwa, a former New York City vigilante who founded the Guardian Angels and is now running as a Republican for mayor of his city.
