By Melanie LeeAuthor, “A Year In Sedona~Meeting The Muse At Wisdom’s Edge”(July 30, 2018)July and August in Sedona present a splendid opportunity to experience what the Zen Buddhist folk call ‘crazy wisdom’, which I understand to be a beginner’s mind approach to life, viz : “Who knows anything for sure, be open to new ideas, chill, relax, we’re all in this together so best to try to have a little fun along the way.” As we slog on through this annual liminal moment with our muggy monsoon season is upon us, much fussing and fretting in the heat of the dog days before September…

Information & Perspective by Warren Woodward (July 29, 2018)As many of you know, last January after getting the requisite number of signatures on a petition for rehearing, APS customer Stacey Champion requested that the Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC) rehear the APS rate increase because many residential customers were getting bills with a much greater increase than the average 4.54% increase that was all the rate increase was supposed to be. I intervened in the complaint which means I am a legal participant, a “party,” in the case.Tomorrow I will file written testimony in that case. Using APS’s own numbers, I…

Here’s my take and what I know.Included within the proposed budget in the Home Rule vote option and also according to city manager, Justin Clifton’s, handout is the spending of $10.1 million on the Sedona in Motion ( SIM ) from a total…

By Margareth Suzette Orah, Sedona Resident(July 27, 2018)I heard today that Whole Foods is laying off employees as it “is very slow”. It’s scary to lose your income, knowing you won’t be able to pay rent! There are a lot of people in Sedona who advocate the need to stop funding The Chamber “for a while,  as there are too many tourists that disrupt life for locals”.As much as I understand and know first hand of the traffic problem – a serious one indeed, I want to reiterate that Sedona’s main and only income is from Tourism. Sedona has no…

By Tommy Acosta(July 26, 2018)Think of two words that encapsulate the premise of the American Revolution; two words that led to the penning of the Declaration of Independence; two words that gave our founding fathers the reason, the will, the strength and determination to turn their plows into guns and force the British overseers out of our country. What are these two words for which the founding fathers fought and died for? Two words that inspired the brave men and women of America in 1776 to say no to “Mad” King George’s rule and unshackle themselves from the tyranny of the…

By Ted Grussing… back in March I got an entire series of this Great Blue Heron spearing a trout and finishing the meal off. Some pretty neat flips of the trout so that is aligned properly to head down the gullet and of course once started it is not reversible because of the fins on the fish, so best to get it right the first time and also make sure that it is not too big to make it down successfully … a number of waterfowl do not survive those type of incidents. Perhaps that is where the saying, “don’t…

By Ted Grussing… the heat of summer is something I try to avoid thinking about and taking myself back to February of this year did the trick. This is a shot I took while cruising the ridgeline at the San Francisco Peaks in February. Humphreys Peak is off image to the left, on the right side of the image closest to the right side is Agassiz Peak, to the left of that is Freemont and then Shultz. Peeking above the ridgeline between Agassiz and Freemont is Mt. Elden and unseen on the other side of that is the Flagstaff Mall…
