Sedona AZ (February 17, 2021) – Sedona-area community group Save Bear Mountain is pleased to announce California-based developer AutoCamp has withdrawn its application for a 100-unit “glamping” project at the base of Bear Mountain.“Withdrawal of the AutoCamp proposal is a tremendous win for everyone who cares about protecting the beautiful vistas and unspoiled character of this land,” said Rhoda Pitcher, a Sedona-area resident who formed Save Bear Mountain along with her husband, Charley. “The project was simply never a good fit, most of all because of its 100 fire pits in an area we know is a tinderbox.”

Sedona AZ (February 16, 2021) – A portion of Boynton Pass Road (Forest Road 152C) will close for repairs from Feb. 22 to Feb. 27.The closure will run along the graveled portion of the road from mile post 4.3 – at the end of the pavement – to mile post 6.4 at the intersection of FR 152C and FR 525.

By Ted Grussing… is the beauty of a Mountain Bluebird in flight. I got this shot yesterday morning when I joined a couple of friends at a mostly dry cattle pond off of Beaver Head Flat Road. Mostly the light was pretty good and a lot of Western Bluebirds were coming in to get drinks of water in between foraging for seeds and whatever else they were eating. This little lady had just left her perch on a stick in the pond and was wheeling away to the NW heading out to find some more food.

Cottonwood AZ (February 15, 2021) – Meet Diane Mueller, a Verde Historical Society board member and volunteer at the Clemenceau Heritage Museum in Cottonwood. Mueller has volunteered at the museum for about 22 years after retiring to the Verde Valley from Morengo, Illinois, following a career as a Special Education Teachers Aid. She currently serves as the volunteer coordinator for the museums greeter desk and gift shop sales personnel.

Cottonwood AZ (February 15, 2021) – Verde Valley Fire District responded to 3 motor vehicle accidents in 13 hours.The first was Feb. 11th at 21:58 hours with 1 vehicle that had driven off the side of Tissaw Rd. with 1 occupant. There was minor damage to the vehicle and the occupant received minor injuries. The patient was transported to VVMC by ambulance for evaluation.

Sedona AZ (February 15, 2021) – The city of Sedona invites 501(c) organizations to apply for city grants beginning today, Feb. 11, 2021. Applications are due by noon on Thursday, April 29, 2021 with awards finalized in July 2021 by Sedona’s City Council. Grant applications are available for programs, activities or events developed by 501(c) organizations that provide a public service or benefit and are consistent with the city’s funding priorities. Individual grant amounts have typically ranged from $2,000 to $20,000.

Sedona AZ (February 15, 2021) – “Suicide Prevention is Up to All of Us” is the topic of Mental Health Monday on February 22, 10AM-11:30AM on Zoom. The program, organized by the Mental Health Coalition Verde Valley, is the second of 12 monthly programs planned for this year.
