    Mental Health Coalitiion Verde ValleySedona AZ (February 15, 2021) – “Suicide Prevention is Up to All of Us” is the topic of Mental Health Monday on February 22, 10AM-11:30AM on Zoom. The program, organized by the Mental Health Coalition Verde Valley, is the second of 12 monthly programs planned for this year.

    The featured speaker is Kelli Donley Williams, State Suicide Prevention Specialist at Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System (AHCCCS). She received her BS from Northern Arizona University and her Master’s degree in Public Health from the University of Arizona. She also oversees AHCCCS’ initiative to expand the provision of behavioral health services in schools statewide. Kelli serves on the boards for United Food Bank and the Arizona Public Health Association and is a Maricopa County Public Health Corps volunteer.

    According to Barbara Litrell, President of the Coalition, “This program will update us on suicide in Arizona, the effect of the pandemic,  the risk factors and warning signs for suicide, how to guide someone into care, the best ways to stay connected to community even from home. I hope everyone will join us for this presentation and community dialog.”

    The Symbolism of Jan. 6

    Don’t mess with symbols. Just ask author Dan Brown’s character Robert Landon. The worth of symbols cannot be measured. Symbols make the world-go-round. Symbols carry the weight of a thousand words and meanings. Symbols represent reality boiled down to the bone. Symbols evoke profound emotions and memories—at a very primal level of our being—often without our making rational or conscious connections. They fuel our imagination. Symbols enable us to access aspects of our existence that cannot be accessed in any other way. Symbols are used in all facets of human endeavor. One can only feel sorry for those who cannot comprehend the government’s response to the breech of the capital on January 6, with many, even pundits, claiming it was only a peaceful occupation. Regardless if one sees January 6 as a full-scale riot/insurrection or simply patriotic Americans demonstrating as is their right, the fact is the individuals involved went against a symbol, and this could not be allowed or go unpunished.
