By Ted Grussing… a beautiful sight tonight when One and I went out on the deck a little after 6PM … Two (our rescue Coopers Hawk) was perched high in my neighbors tree and gazing down on the wild area behind us … she flew down, secured her lizard for dinner and in this photo of her was mantling her kill. This is something that is common to all raptors when they make a kill and that is to hide the prey so that other predators will not see that they have food and thus avert losing their hard earned…

Sedona AZ (July 26, 2021) – Water quality counts taken between 8:50 and 11:18 a.m. on July 24, 2021 show E.coli levels at all test sites above the state and federal water quality E.coli limit of 235 Colony Forming Units (CFU)/100mL of water for recreational swimming. This is believed to be due from the heavy rain events experienced this weekend, after almost no 2020 monsoon season.
By Ted Grussing… is One’s way to describe this sunset image and she decided she liked it so much that she became part of the image. I’ve spent a substantial portion of the past several days going through the portfolio looking for skies that I can use with the sky replacement tool in Photoshop; the program comes with many stock photos, but I opted to delete them all and use my own sky photos for those rare instances when I want to replace the sky in an image. This is a shot that I took from just outside my front…

Sedona AZ (July 23, 2021) – At around 4 p.m. on July 23, 2021, rain water inundated the city of Sedona’s El Camino Lift Station at 700 El Camino Rd. and overwhelmed the pump system, causing a sewage spill to occur. By Ted Grussing… a western bluebird is flaring just before he drops in to the log in the quiet water of a cattle pond while four other western bluebirds are looking on or already drinking. They are quick, small and difficult to get a lock whilst in flight and when you get them, it is a real treat. You can see how he has just flared up and pivoting to the right providing a braking action and it slows him so that he just drops out of flight onto the log.

By Amaya Gayle GregorySedona News (July 22, 2021) One of the last things my late husband Kenny said to me before he died was, ‘Slow down.’ I didn’t understand. I had slowed waaaaay down and yet, when his allotted words were counting down, what did he find important to share? Slow down!Ken wasn’t in resistance to his death. He accepted it long before I could. I watched in awe as he laughed at his image in the mirror, saying he’d make a good poster child for Auschwitz. He stunned my senses, my limited concept of light, as he stood by…
By Dr. Richard Pitcairn(July 22, 2021) I have a friend who is unusual in his ability to consider serious questions. I know he has an interest in many things and I, on meeting him recently, rather spontaneously asked what he thought of this virus epidemic we are struggling with. His responses were, to say the least, unexpected and unusual, yet I found them intriguing. I asked if I could share our dialogue and he agreed and asked that his name not be used. In what follows I refer to his part of the conversation with the letter “L” which is the…
By Ted Grussing… it seems as though these three predators got a call on their mobile devices at the same time, and their takeout orders were ready to pick up … a nice large mouth bass for each of the juvenile bald eagles and fresh rabbit road kill for the raven. So they all left their perches on the branches of a dead tree near the shore and headed out on their missions.
