Sedona AZ (December 22, 2011) – In 1863, Arizona became a separate, official United States Territory, but several issues blocked any smooth road to statehood, and, indeed, statehood remained almost fifty years away. Ultimately, the statehood debate devolved into a dispute over whether the New Mexico and Arizona territories would produce one state or two. In November 1906 the two territories voted on the issue and Arizonans overwhelming renounced the idea of joint statehood by a larger margin. On February 14, 1912 President William Howard Taft signed the proclamation making Arizona our forty-eight state.
Sedona AZ (December 21, 2011) – Yesterday afternoon, YCSO detectives from the Criminal Investigations Bureau served a search warrant in the 5100 block of S. Mill Avenue, Tempe, Arizona. A suspect, identified as 33-year-old Oshin Thomas, was arrested in an apartment on Mill Avenue for the Sedona burglary. In recent days, detectives developed information linking Thomas to the theft based on a prior business relationship with the victim and evidence obtained during the investigation. This work is part of the Eastside Project. Smoke will rise and disperse to the southwest. Light smoke may be noticeable from Highway 180 during ignition but should dissipate quickly. UPDATE: The tentative congressional- and legislative-district maps approved yesterday by the Arizona Independent Redistricting Commission have been posted to the agency’s website, azredistricting.org. The panel adopted the maps pending analyses by its legal counsel and voting-rights consultants. According to counsel Mary O’Grady, the panel will have to vote on the maps again after receiving the analyses.
