Sedona AZ (October 22, 2014) – Poets are invited to compete at the first Sedona Poetry Slam of the 2014-15, which kicks off at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 1, at the Mary D. Fisher Theatre, 2030 W. State Route 89A, Suite A-3. Slam poetry is an art form that allows written page poets to share their work alongside theatrical performers, hip-hop artists and lyricists. While many people may think of poetry as dull and laborious, a poetry slam is like a series of high-energy, three-minute one-person plays.

By Ted Grussing … incredible beauty that we have to live with in Sedona … geez, I need a break already … down to about 7,000’ and about six miles west of the airport inbound for landing. After leaving the scene of last night’s photograph I headed southwest and came off the plateau just east of Sycamore Canyon. I wanted to do that as it would put the sun off the passenger side of the Lambada and I could shoot out the pilots side (that would be me) and get the low red light hitting the rock faces and giving…

By Ted Grussing … the light brilliant … the source a star we call the sun … earth’s atmosphere the filter … earth’s surface the canvas on which the art is painted … and I got to see a masterpiece, capture it and share it with you.
Experts Help Parents Get Strategy to Talk to Children About Sex in October Phoenix AZ (October 20, 2014) – According to a study by the National Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy (NCPTP), teens say consistently that parents are the biggest influencer on their decisions about sex and relationships. Diane DeLong, senior program manager of North Star Youth Partnership, says that overall closeness between parents and their children, shared activities and parental presence in the home reduce the risk of early sex and teen pregnancy. “Teens who are close to their parents and feel supported by them are more likely to…
Information & Opinion by Warren Woodward(October 19, 2014) I received a response from the Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC) concerning the letter I wrote them last month about APS changing out thousands of “smart” meters due to overheating and possible fire concerns. For your reading enjoyment, the ACC/APS response and my reply are below.
By Ron Vernesoni(October 19, 2014) I recently reviewed the report released by the US Forest Service for the Sedona Red Rock District regarding user conflicts on trails (“A Study of User Conflicts on Sedona Area Non-motorized Trails, Red Rock Ranger District, Coconino National Forest, Final October 2014”). I recognize the study was intended to be about “user conflicts” but there is not one mention of environmental and ecological considerations in the entire report. It is a fundamental issue in this discussion and should at least deserve honorable mention in the report. It is a very telling omission.
By Ted Grussing … or so it seems as the cloud appears to be healing itself after a commercial jet rather rudely ripped it apart whilst traversing its airspace. Not sure if it healed, but I am thinking it did not, but what an effort. This is one of the more unusual cloud shots I have taken and but for man having erected himself millennia ago and found ways to improve his lot I would not have been able to capture this shot … rather a continuum from early humans who looked at the sky and saw magnificent formations and…
Information & Opinion by Warren Woodward(October 15, 2014) Two Democrats and two Republicans are running for two open seats on the Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC). There are no Green, Libertarian or Independent candidates this election. The short story is that, based on news reports, the candidates’ public statements, answers (and non-answers) to my survey as well as their performance in the PBS debate (seen here: Vote 2014: Corporation Commission Debate), I will unenthusiastically vote for the two Democrats, Jim Holway and Sandra Kennedy. I ask you to consider doing the same. Here’s why. MORE—>

“The future isn’t what it used to be”–Charles Bowden (7/20/1945-8/30/2014) By James Bishop Jr. He savored hikes deep into the Sycamore Wilderness. He treasured the Cottonwoods along the Verde and the elk antler he once spied under some leaves off the trail in West Beaver Creek. All the while, he wrote dozens of books- from Killing the Hidden Waters to Sicario The Autobiography of a Mexican Assassins. They are powerful tomes brimming with a fierce love for Arizona and the people who have left their mark on the land, the missions, developers, sacred rock art, as well as the wild…
By Ted Grussing Since childhood I have pondered on what is, why and in general have always sought answers to that which I do not understand. When I was twelve, F. Molina Campus, a friend of my dad’s from Argentina, painted one of his gaucho paintings for me, except this one had a real ruler tucked under his arm … he had spent an evening with our family and was subjected to an inquisition by me wanting to know whatever it was I was seeking information on and he went back to his hotel room and did this painting. I…
Attn: Sedona press, friends and supporters Sedona, AZ (October 10, 2014) – I have made a decision to end my campaign for election to the Sedona city council. In the past several months there is a long list of incidents and aggressive, vindictive, hateful bulling actions against me, my family and my business. These are far outside the possibility of coincidence. I have a whole list of names and even video of persons involved, including my opponent. I thought that being on city council would be a matter of simple public service but it’s obvious that Sedona city councilors and…
